Great game

It aight. I replayed it a few months ago and felt like the game's 2nd half kinda sucks. Which is sad because the 1st half is so wonderful and magical feeling.

Beatrix is fine. The problem are Steiner, Quina, Amarant and Zidane.

Awful characters all around.

Who else will turn away from the rest of the cast and say "..." in every story scene? Zidane isn't up to the task

Tried to play it 3 times and can never finish it. Just sorta loses steam after a point.

what even is Amarants purpose in the party?
everyone else has a reason to be there, but Amarant is like "i fight you. oh no i lost, now i'm coming with you whether you like it or not"

Is it a big deal to get a perfect score in the beginning? Every time I play it I spend two hours trying and then just put it down forever afterwards.

I feel like they just ran out of time and he got cut. They could have done something real cool with his relationship with Lani, but I can see why it was probably one of the first things that would get cut due to time restraints.

Top Tier FF. Shares #1 spot with FF6.

IIRC, Lani was originally gonna be the one to join, but then they decided she was too thiefy n redundant, so everything about Amarant was a last minute decision.

I played it shortly after release, and made it to just after you get Eiko. I thought the game was just okay, nothing special

Finally played through it a few years ago. It's easily one of the top 5 in the series, and has the most coherent story of the PS1 trilogy

Only if the achievement is important to you. Otherwise you can get the same item in three other places.

Joke opinion. Other than Amarant and Eiko, every playable character in FF9 is hall of fame tier.

nostalgia clouded it a bit for me after replaying it with the moguri mod after many years.

still great game but don't think i could get through it all if i didn't have a speed up option.

this should be a trend... ALL jrpgs need a speed up option by default.

They should also copy Bravely Default and let the player adjust the encounter rate. Would make FF 1-6 much better not having a battle every two steps.

Game is often praised for an "amazing" plot, soundtrack, cast of characters and gameplay. The only one of those that isn't mediocre (or outright awful like the characters) is the plot.

Most overrated FF without dispute. I immediately think of this game when people claim Skyward Sword has an amazing soundtrack, when it's actually boring as shit outside of a handful of songs.

I loved it, but it is flawed.

Freya's story is dropped completely. Seriously no one even cares that the king of Burmecia was killed in action.

When the reveal happens, the game doesn't comment on the triad of foils: Zidane, Kuja and Vivi

Amarant has no character which is a shame.

The moves and presentation of the game are great though.

Ark, flare/nuke, and no mercy all look great

Also a super easy game

4 and 5 have better OSTs but they do have certain weaknesses that make it difficult to ultimately declare them as better games

I've never held character development in any particular regard, but Steiner easily has more of that than anyone else in FF9. Wouldn't be surprised if it's more than anyone in all the main FF games.
