I work in customer service and talk to people on daily basis. Lately I noticed with the younger generation, they sound like they're talking in text message format or lack insightful depth into their thought process when they speak. It's like they'll talk about their problems, then expect feed back, only to disregard the feedback and go back to talking about their problems as if they've never listened to you. I feel like I'm talking to a bot most of the time, so I dumb things down to better relate.

When someone would gripe about their problems, instead of giving advice and actually listening to their problems, I just nod and repeat back the last thing they said. Ironically, they think I'm a great listener this way than actually "listening" and responding to their problems with my own insight.

I dont think it's specifically the younger generation in that respect. I notice it in all age groups that I deal with except maybe lonely old folks.

For me I don't really like talking and have attention issues so I rarely put much effort in.

I hate small talking in customer service. Shut up tell the problem and move on afterwards.
