Naw fuck that let all of the fast food places crumble until they finally start paying more.

every single drive thru in my town has lines out to the street all fucking day because they are so short staffed. And its not like theyre doing more business than they used to, it just takes them so fucking long to get orders out the window.

Hmm I wonder what would help encourage people to work there. Dont they realize theyre just losing potential money at this point.

I'm also screwed when it comes to transportation. My car is broken and I can't afford to fix it, and even if I could, I'm such a bad and anxious driver that I wouldn't be able to drive on the highway. Everything is fucked.

I can't speak towards the software shit but "years of experience" for entry-level positions is typically not an actual requirement.

Apply anyway. In my experience most of those jobs dont actually require half the shit they say they do.

Example: the job I start next week required a bachelors degree. All I have is a high school diploma. I got hired at $1/hr higher than the highest pay listed for the job.

did you drop off any in person? Call them?

Applying via email addresses on a public website probably means 100+ resumes and it's hard to stand out

Simply going in and saying "I know this is a competitive industry but I just wanted to drop this off in person and introduce myself" could make a difference.

Good luck.

Not in the slightest. Every listing reeks of being a scam. I applied to be a COVID contact tracer last year and I was strung along for two months with several phone interviews.

I really don't know what I'm going to do. :(

This. The years of experience bullet for entry level jobs is just there to scare off the lazy and riff raff. If you meet at least half the requirements then always apply.

There seems to be a misunderstanding that Entry level jobs are easier to get into because they dont' require much from you than Senior level jobs... which can be farther from the truth. Entry level jobs are the most competitive because you're competing against every single person who's graduated from a college ever. It's the position that will put your feett through the door over the career path of your choice. They're going to be the most picky over there candidates because of it. I know because I've interviewed so many Entry Level applicants at the CPA firm I work at and know we get thousands of resume's every year. We're going to do everything we can to filter out the applicants, which means we're aiming for the cream of the crop.

I would suggest that if there is a job you really want to tailor your resume to what they're looking for to make it easier for their computer to pick out. At our job place, we use AI to find key words that fit our company, which are easy to pick out from the job description and responsibility parts. We want to filter out the ones who are serious and the ones who just click "send resume".

I applied to a job last week and immediately got a not selected message. I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't meet one requirement, which was having a bachelor's in accounting or finance. I met all the other requirements and I have an MBA in Finance.
Yeah those auto filter things are dumb. Best thing I tell people is to make an actual account on LinkedIn and other job sites like Indeed. Upload your resume, skills, etc to the profile. Employers and recruiters scan these sites for potential employees. The sites aren't only used by people looking for jobs. If you have your stuff filled out, people will reach out to you with job listings. Takes some of the effort off of you.

Positivity doesn't really change anything. This is literally just a paycheck to me, as I'm aware I'm likely not going to ever find a decent job or a career path I like. I've been treated like shit at every job I've ever had and I've accepted that it's just how it is.

I know my post came off scary, I only do this to help people get into the career job they're looking for, but my main point is to put in the effort and don't treat your career path as if you're applying for a low end job. Take it seriously and try to "network" if possible. The job position I'm in right now was a position that was never posted online, but I only learned of it because the Senior Manager I worked with told me about it because we got along really well.

I can't "network". I really don't have any references or contacts. My previous job treated me poorly and after almost six years I just walked out. I don't really know what I want to do as a career, mainly because I suck at pretty much everything and I've failed at literally everything I've ever tried.

I live very close to a major city, so 90% of the listings are intended for long-term professionals.

If you're looking for sympathy, I'll give it to ya. Job searching is a pain in the ass. I also worked in a toxic work enviroment before, hence why the company went out of business.

If you're looking for constructive criticism, you have to change your attitude. An attitude like that almost guarantees you won't get the job you're looking for. You have to not give up, keep pushing forward. If you want my best advice, staffing agencies can most certainly help in your position. Tell them want kind of field you want to get into and they'll do most of the work to find you one. If they get you a place and the place likes you, they'll pay the staffing agency so they can keep you as a full time employee.
