I know you can go report them to the labor board and also find one of those lawyers that you only pay if you win your case but thats as far as I know when it comes to this

Depends on what they did and if you have proof. Unlawful dismissal can be a tough one because it's easy for companies to make up a paper trail of absences and disciplinary actions to "justify" it.

How stacked is the employer? More $$$ = better lawyers and more money to throw at them.

In general, any company will fight their hardest, but expect a longer, tougher fight with a stacked, well off company.

depending on the specifics and the actual wrong that took place, it could be easy to get something out of the employer, but even if its a settlement theyll still fight to the best of their ability to minimize the damage as much as possible.

How'd the wrong you? My dad was able to sue his company because a steel beam fell on him but that's a hard thing to deny

You can sue anyone for anything in the US for the most part.

Regarding suing your employer, again, you can sue them for anything. Your chance of winning depends on what you're suing for.
