In a sense it requires the least amount of actual motion of any exercise and you don't even do them in huge amounts of volume. If you didn't lift and you saw a guy deadlifting you might think it was a warm up exercise. Ostensibly it's not very impressive or athletic.

But 5 fucking reps of your max deadlift and you're just fucked after, in a way that literally no exercise fucks you.

Wild, man.

I used to deadlift almost daily. It was a really good way to get rid of back pain.

I just do two 45's on either side. About 5 of 5. I jog for an hour before my weight lifting routine.

For how easily it can fuck up your back if your form slips, it doesn't seem worth it.

Squats are enough for me I think
I've hurt myself doing squats way more than deadlifting tbh

it's a great exercise but I can never get the form just right. I always feel like I'm straining my pelvic floor and/or hitting my balls with the bar.

I started PHUL again recently, and forgot that Squats + Deadlifts are done consecutively on the first Lower day. I would be spent if I actually did that

This. Screwing up the deadlift form isn't that easy to do once you've done it enough times, but squats can actually hurt you badly if you a) take on more than you can chew and b) are not able to recover properly from a slip-up.

I loved doing deadlifts but I've tweaked my back like 3 times doing them over the years so I stopped. Always seems to be like everything's feeling good and then there's one rep that fucks me up good for like a month.
