In a previous Kalpa, Mehrunes Dagon was not a daedric lord but a being known as the Leaper Demon King.

Molag Bal had his willy bitten off by Vivec, who fashioned it into a spear.

Mephala is believed to be the "Sithis" entity that speaks to the Dark Brotherhood.

The most common an vanilla theory is that the Sheogorath we see in Skyrim is the player character from Oblivion, who after the events of Shivering Isles, "mantled" Sheogorath and took his place when he was freed and returned to his previous form of Jyggalag.

lmao we just posted the same thing at the same time

at one point the ES4 protagonist took on the role of sheogorath sure, but by the time we meet them in ES5 they're not the champion anymore. mantling a deadric prince is essentially suicide, you become them and nothing of the original you is left.

In simple terms a kalpa is a "cycle" of the universe.

It has a beginning, where the world and all the forces surrounding it come together, and an end, where the Towers fall and/or Alduin shows up a gobbles everything up.

The Kalpa in which the Elder Scrolls games take place is not the first. Even though the previous universe "ends" and things start again, there's differences in each cycle or some stuff carries over.

The Aedra/Daedra are good examples. The Dreugh are another good example in that they were a very intelligent and powerful race in a previous Kalpa and carried over into the present one (though they're rather stupid and primitive now)

The first time I tried pot when I was 14 I had had a cold.

I had stupidly smoked it, and it irritated the fuck out of my nose/throat.

I ended up puking and was convinced I was dying because I "overdosed" lol

I've only ever played Oblivion and Skyrim, and I noticed that the latter takes itself way more seriously.

like in Oblivion there's a woman whose first line to you is "they call me the rat lady because of all my pet rats", and the first line said to you by the archer dude who helps you kill the gate-guardian-thing is "do the bones speak to you too?" there's almost nothing like that in Skyrim.

what are some more super weird things like that that stood out to you?

Oblivion does have some weirdness with the writing. IIRC they had scrapped and overhauled the main quest rather late in development so I've always wondered if that was the reason.

But yeah, stiff af dialogue, characters mentioning gods/entities that don't exist, the villain not knowing which Daedra belong to which realms.

And on top of it all Bethesda seemingly wanting to retcon the world into a more generic Tolkienesque fantasy kinda thing.

I love the game but yeah its writing is really off.

Base Oblivion was bad but they started fixing it with KotN and Shivering Isles. Then Skyrim brought a lot of neat stuff back into the lore.

And ESO for all its faults has been pretty great at fleshing the world out and is not afraid to get weird.

There is something left of the Champion of Cyrrodil inside. Besides having memories, this Sheogorath has you heal the madness of Pelagius The Mad. Quite benevolent for a mad god
