Number 2 is the pinnacle IMO
Fury Road is almost as good.

If they'd had modern tech when they made Mad Max 2, it would have been amazing.

Number 1 is a classic though

Beyond Thunder Dome is weird. Some good elements, but some really awful ones. If they'd cut the bad ones, halved the budget, kept it small and focused on more fights in the ThunderDome, it could have worked.

2=Fury Road > Mad Max >>> Beyond Thunderdome.

The first one is a bit slow, but still a fine movie. 2 really the starts the whole Mad Max feel, and it's great. Beyond Thunderdome started out pretty good, but ends up pretty shit. Fury Road is awesome.

This.

I feel like Im the only person on this forum that thinks Furry Road is absolute trash. Thunderdome was ridiculous, but it was a ridiculous 80s-style action film and plays as youd expect. My order is actually:

Mad Max 2/Road Warrior
Thunderdome
Mad Max

watching two hours of shitty Def Leppard videos

Furry Road

Agreed. It's like they wrote a really interesting sequel to number 2 that featured the town and Thunder Dome but then something happened, like they realised they needed to extend the movie out and couldn't afford more ThunderDome so got a bunch of cheap kids in and accidently mixed up pages from a film about Peter Pans friends.

The guitar guy doesn't make the movie great but it sheds an excellent light on male supremacy in a post apocalypse. Maybe you didn't understand the movie?

The original was more of a proof of concept for what Road Warrior would turn out to be. Thunderdome is worth seeing simply for the pop-culture value of it, the whole 'oh okay, so that's where that comes from.' Fury Road is one of those exceptionally rare latter-day sequels that expertly sticks the landing.

Fun fact, the actor who plays Toecutter in Mad Max also plays Immortan Joe in Fury Road.

The Road Warrior and Fury Road are the quintessential Max films. The first one is very good, and it's good you're starting there. But really, the first is better as setup for the second film, rather than by itself.

Yeah. Road Warrior is very strong, one of the best films ever, even just by itself. But it's even better having seen the first one. The arc of the first film is not complete until the end of Road Warrior.

Thunderdome is it's own thing really. Honestly, both it and Fury Road copy the character arc of Road Warrior. Stylistically, Thunderdome is also very 80s looking, so it's not as timeless looking as the others. Actually, the story wasn't even being written as a Max story, but became one sometime during pre production. It stars Mel Gibson, but I would not think of it as a third part of a trilogy. Imo, it's easily the worst, but at least one above user seems to think it's the best one so take that as you will.

As far as a complete and cohesive story, the first two films stand together. Road Warrior isn't not a middle chapter story, it's a finisher. Thunder and FR are more just different takes on the iconic Road Warrior story.

You don't get the full arc out of Road Warrior without the first movie. I mean yeah it explains it in 15 seconds of the intro, but emotionally its not as powerful as actually coming off of that first story.

Worst music, Diana Ross sucks.
Most quotes full stop, it's far more "talky" than previous films. Besides, "what a day..." From Fury Road beats any quote from ThunderDome.
Iconic scenes?... The fight in the dome is Iconic and the highlight of the film... That 1 scene.. fury Road has far more, MM2 has far more.
And world building in the third relies on the world already built in 1&2, it adds a town and some dumbass lost boys, that's all. Fury Road expands on the lore far far more with water and the wives and Joe and the rival groups etc etc.

ThunderDome is such a waste, you'd be better off skipping it and playing the Mad Max video game and then watch Fury Road.

I was reading up on trivia, and as someone alluded to earlier, Thunderdome started off as its own entity - sort of a post-apocalyptic Lord of the Flies-type movie pitched to George Miller. Then at some point in production, it occurred to them that they could work Mad Max into it. Makes a lot more sense when you view it from that lens (not necessarily the movie itself making sense, just the way the movie turned out).

I've been playing it for the last couple of weeks. I think it's awesome, if a bit grindy, but I don't mind that, I like it actually. Great setting, great car combat, looks really good. My only gripe with it is that there are too few story missions. But the side stuff makes up for that.
I think it fits perfectly in the Mad Max universe.

Loved it, enjoyed that they somehow had handcrafted individual locations for all the side content, and there was a surprising amount of variety in the landscape considering it was all a washed out apocalyptic nightmarescape.

Only thing I kinda hated was the pacing, but that's kinda my fault. I did all the side content I could and then it came time to doing the story and I just breezed through it. I wish they had done a little more gatekeeping with the extra stuff just to balance it out a little.

The Mad Max game is by the same team that makes the Just Cause series. It's missing Just Cause's greatest feature which is the grapple/parachute combo, but still if you like it you'll probably like Mad Max. But in October they shut down servers that provide support for some online features of the game (leaderboards and stuff), which annoyingly makes the game's last achievement/trophy unobtainable, if that bothers you. It can be circumvented I think if you download a save file with the silly task that is broken by it already completed.

Dont care about trophies so thats not an issue
