6 is where i stopped. I realized it was way too easy (it had that ridiculous experience share) and the game was just boring, I'd had enough. I think 5 was the last great generation.

When it got easy I just started doing one-type runs

I tried pokemon a couple of times (one game from gen 1, forget which, rubyred, and pokemon y), but I was never into it. I have maybe 20 or 30 hours between those 3 games.

Gen 2 was the last mainline game I played

After gen 5. Partially because I never got a 3DS, but most of my interest was gone anyway.

I don't know the generations. I had Red/Yellow, then Pearl, then X or Y... couldn't bring myself to finish that last one :(

I only played Gen 1, but then I played a little bit of Sun/Moon with Duncan but I only got past the second Trial.

White was the most recent one Ive played, but Ill pick up the new one if its any good.

Emerald is probably my favorite.

Not sure how to answer it, last game I played when it came out was Heart Gold but I STILL play that and Gens 1 through 5 altogether.

I came back some years later, but gen 3 was when I gave up on pokemon, because my brother erased my save file of 600+ hours, and I just couldn't recover from that. I wiped all his saves on everything for years, afterwards.

I bought Sun when it came out but only played for maybe an hour. I still go back every once in a while to try a nuzlocke or something but I just can't handle the games anymore.

I usually get caught up in the hype and get every game, but I play an hour or two before putting it down and repeating the same thing in a year or two.

RPGs and the like are just not my type anymore.

I haven't touched a Pokemon game since Gen 6.

Loved X and was planning on building up some teams, but then I hit a personal gaming crash that is still kind of going to this day. I own Sun but haven't started it yet.

Still playing. Just finished Solar Light and Lunar Dark. Pretty decent fan game, though it clearly still has bugs to fix.

I played shiny silver or whatever and wanted to get a Gible and basically said **** this game when I read the instructions lol

It would've been 2009, gen 4... Heart Gold would've been the last Pokemon game I ever played

But it ended up being a 10 year break because in early 2019 I was drunk one night browsing slick deals at 2am and there was this crazy Amazon warehouse deal on a lime green, super mario world themed 3DS and I insta-bought it no hesitation

In the last 2 years I've played through everything I missed, the 3DS games first (X, then Omega Ruby, then Ultra Sun), Sword, and then most recently gen 5

Tbh after playing Black and Black 2 this year (emulator of course cuz fuck eBay prices) I kinda regret not sticking around for a generation longer because those games are the absolute peak of the series for me

Can't agree with that. Some of my favorite Pokemon games(Stadium 1 and 2, Colosseum and XD) were developed by a different company. While Gamefreak was still good back then, those games prove that other companies can make a good Pokemon game.

But yeah even if the remake turns out good, I suppose it doesn't mean GF won't make an even shittier game Gen 9.

Gen 4

I hadn't planned to pick up Diamond but did at the last minute because of the hype. I got to Fantina, couldn't beat her damn Mismagius with Shadow Ball, and gave up on new, mainline Pokemon games until Shield.

I was also a cranky teenager at that point and probably thought I was too old for Pokemon.

Stopped at Pearl, but might continue this year with Shining Pearl lol

I stopped at gen 3. I think I got like 2 hours into Pokemon Sapphire as a kid before I felt 'this is the same poop as last time'. 1 to 2 felt like a huge jump because for all we knew, 1 was going to be the only gen. 2 to 3 felt less special.

Basically right when they added new Pokemon after Gen 1. Lost interest completely.

Gen 2. Had a gotta catch em all mentality and I never succeeded im gen 2 so when they made yet another 100 Pokemon I said fuck that.

I was really proud of having a complete pokedex in red. Had to cheat to get mews entry but the other 150 where legit.

i think the only way i would play pokemon at all now was if i did nuzlocke.

DraStic DS emulator on Android. I think it was like 5 bucks on the app store.

I would play in this configuration, didn't really use the lower screen much so I made it smaller


And honestly it was fun, emulation has come a long way

Stopped at Gen 4 after HG/SS, think I was in middle school when it became "uncool" to play Pokemon and everybody was on Call of Duty and whatever else; I stopped playing video games altogether. I think 4-5 years ago I emulated BW/BW2 and absolutely LOVED them, my favorites in the series. Also replayed/emulated all the other games I played before. Don't know why I ever let myself fall out of Pokemon, they're all just as great as I remember them. Still haven't played Gens 6 & 7, just picked up Sw/Sh a couple months ago and thought I'd finally get into a Pokemon Gen while it's hot. In all that time I still have never played a second of Pokemon Go, figured it's too late now.

Sun/Moon was my last one. Got tired of their laziness but I might try Arceus if only to try and promote them trying new stuff.

Gen 7 was a huge disappointment for me, and I didn't have enough faith in the series to buy a Switch for Gen 8.

I still play them but I haven't gotten all 8 badges since I think Black/White 2. Every game since then has bored me to death by the baby difficulty before I got to the last gym.

I just want a hard mode, then I'll get more into it.

do a nuzlocke run. it's not even "hard" per se but it ups the stakes a lot. i wanted to do a nuzlocke run of ORAS (big nostalgia for 3rd gen for me) but didn't want to pay the cash lol
