the alternative is to let the virus run rampant and become deadlier. if we could have actually locked down, masked up, and done our civic duty the pandemic could have been over by now and there would barely be a need for a booster shot. unfortunately, the pandemic was politicized and idiocy allowed the pandemic to keep coursing through the world

I got Pfizer, but originally I was more interested in Moderna, but I'd heard Moderna had stronger side effects, and I had like almost zero side effects from my Pfizer shots so idk. I'll take a booster idgaf, it'll probably be no different than usual.

that dropoff makes some sense if you understand how the immune system works. basically there's a shift from fast acting but unstable molecules towards longer lasting but slower ones. makes you more likely to have a "breakthrough" infection, but because you've still got a resistance the immune system mounts a response quickly and you end up with very light symptoms.

the reason why you have a flu shot every year isn't because you lose that immunity, its because the shot targets proteins on the virus that are highly mutable, they change fairly rapidly from generation to generation. essentially the flu vaccine is updated every year to account for that mutation. this is the same reason they might issue booster shots for covid, though less because its got a high mutation rate and more because its explosive spread = more mutations.
