Yes, because literally no one sane cares about Robotech itself anymore and Macross is an ongoing franchise.
Also Mimnay was already unbearable in SDFM and the last thing anyone needs is a modern take on her.

There's some weird licensing issue that's been around since the 80s on Robotech. So that's most likely never going to happen.

I've said it before... Robotech had the better story. Macross just turned into complete nonsense.

Big West and Harmony Gold actually came to an agreement a few months ago on licensing and according to their press releases all future Macross series will get western releases. The only thing in limbo is Macross: Do You Remember Love? because there's yet another company that holds the distribution rights to that.

I don't think it's needed.
SDF is passable viewing, allowing for low budget moments and the obvious plot lifts/homages from preceeding mecha series. Probably would benefit the most from a remake or a Tomino style compilation feature.
Plus doesn't really need any upgrading.
7 is pretty perfect as is. Maybe cut Mylene out.
Zero might do well IF they pushed modern CGI to the same degree they did in 2002. And fleshed out the Bird-Human a bit more.

Don't forget that Sivil-Basara-Gigil counts as M7's triangle as well.
In the case of cutting Mylene, I'd just do one with Miria, Max and Gamlin. Have their relationship be on the rocks in part cuz she's making eyes/chasing youth, he's trying to deal with the new threat way beyond Zentraedi, and Gamlin is caught in the middle and in over his head.
