1. Rubber Soul - This was the album we had in my childhood and it absolutely shaped my music tastes. For me, every single track bangs (yes, even What Goes On and Run For Your Life), I listen to it front-to-back all the time, and listen to every track individually all the time. It remains my favorite album ever recorded.

2. Revolver - Every track is memorable, the running order is stunningly perfect, and it really showcases the transition from the Help/Rubber Soul era into the Sgt. Pepper era.

3. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Another one of my favorite albums to listen to from start-to-finish. Not every single track is a banger but most of them are and it flows so well, arguably showcases each Beatles' talent the best, is just so different from really any other album, and the payoff is phenomenal with one of the all-time greatest album-closers.

4. Abbey Road - The first seven tracks are all fantastic but then, I'm gonna be controversial here and say I tend to lose interest and investment at the medley. Other than simply having its highs and lows, I'd rather listen to full songs than snippets of them.

5. Magical Mystery Tour - The second half is fucking stacked (I Am the Walrus, Hello Goodbye, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, and All You Need is Love almost all in a row, broken only by the just-okay Baby You're a Rich Man), but the first half has quite a few weak, forgettable, and even outright bad tracks.

6. A Hard Day's Night - A really underrated rock-and-roll album, the only one of the first five albums to feature all songs written by the Beatles themselves with no covers, and quite a handful of hidden gems.

7. The Beatles (White Album) - This album has weakened tremendously for me over time. The disharmony between the band members at this point resulted in this basically feeling like the remnants of four scrapped solo albums. The finished product is disjointed, and extremely uneven in quality. Between the bangers (most of which honestly bang less for me now than they did years ago) is a whole bunch of filler. The most interesting thing to me here is that it has some of my obscure favorites that tend to get lost in the shuffle (I'd rather listen to Savoy Truffle, Cry Baby Cry, Sexy Sadie or I'm So Tired over Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da or the album version of Revolution anyday).

8. Help! - Scattered among the hits is quite a bit of filler, but also a couple of overlooked tracks.

9. Please Please Me - For a debut album recorded in just 13 hours, this probably exceeds standards. When compared to the rest of the Beatles' work, it has a ton of tracks that simply don't hold up.

10. Let It Be - Track-by-track there is actually some really great stuff, but I hate what Phil Spector did with the album. The random chatter and little tunes that play between some tracks, the single versions of Let It Be and Get Back are vastly superior, the "wall-of-sound" just doesn't do it for me here, the running order is bizarre, Dig It and Maggie Mae break up the flow of Side 1... It's just a really disappointing way to end the band's career. As an album, I honestly prefer the Naked version.

11. With the Beatles - A well-put-together rock album that has quite a few memorable tracks, but also a ton of forgettable ones.

12. Beatles For Sale - I can't remember the last time I listened to this album from beginning to end. Too many weak tracks and parts of it feel really disjointed.

I really don't count Yellow Submarine. It only has four original tracks by the Beatles themselves, plus two existing tracks from other albums and some orchestral stuff.

I like the Beatles a lot, probably not in my top 10 bands, but pretty good.

My main problem with them is, I feel like often, their albums don't have interesting pacing, the songs feel homogeneous: 12ish pop songs of equal length and equal tension, no climax, no breathing room. I know, that's probably just how most albums were at that time.

  1. Let it Be - The only beatles album I regularly listen to fully. The lo-fi bluesy vibe of this album is really unique and cool to me, and it doesn't get old. In addition, a bunch of songs on here might be my favorite Beatles songs, like Two Of Us, I've Got A Feeling, Get Back... The main part I don't like is Long and Winding Road, although the Naked version is all right.
  2. White Album - Just a ridiculous number of fascinating/great songs... and admittedly, some terrible ones. I don't enjoy listening to either half all the way through, but I do listen in segments. This doesn't have the homogeneity problem, that's for sure.
  3. Abbey Road - I'm 100% sick of side 1, but side 2 is gold.
  4. Rubber Soul - The first 2 songs are some of my favorites by the band. The rest, pretty good.
  5. Magical Mystery Tour - Good weird stuff on here. Kinda hate the big singles, but like the other tracks. I also like the movie a lot for some dumb reason.
  6. Sgt Pepper - I find most of it very irritating, but song 2 is an all time favorite.
  7. Hard Day's Night - I like it all, but don't love any of it. This one and all the ones below are very homogeneous.
  8. Please Please Me - I like its version of "Boys" a lot.
  9. Help! - Kinda irritating.
  10. Revolver - Surprisingly very irritating to me, start to finish.
  11. Beatles For Sale - Don't care.
  12. With The Beatles - Don't care.

it's too hard for me to rank all the albums but it seems like my opinions differ from most beatles fans because i really like the early stuff, when they still made mersybeat music. like, i'd put please please me ahead of magical mystery tour.
