Did he ask you to open the door for him? That's not a request.

He said "Open the door!" which is a request.

And we, as people, also say "Can you help me?" which is also a request.

If we say, "Thank you", then we are being a good friend. Not the people we say "thank you" to.

The person who opened the door for me was not being a "good friend", because he opened the door for me, and that is being a good friend.

Keep in mind, this person did not ask me to open the door for him. When he said "Can you help me?" he was not saying "Can you open the door for me?" He was not saying "Open the door for me?"

Dude, I think we are all pretty much agreeing with your conclusion that it is more of a request than a statement.

There is a difference between a request and a statement, okay?
