I thought it was a Dark Souls clone at first but then I saw a little of the gameplay and it seemed more like Assassins' Creed. I'm sure the gameplay is great but is there a great story? Quests? How are the characters? I usually fall into the "Story, Quest, Characters" side when it comes to games so I don't wnat to shell out for the director's cut and its not anything I'd like.

personally, I thought that it was pretty lame overall.

like, if you're familiar with Assassin's Creed, then you'll ease right in with Ghost of Tsushima's mission and open-world structure (liberating enemy bases, unlocking areas, a bunch of point of interest map stuff, unlocking moves/abilities/passive skills, etc).

the swordplay is alright, but the stealth is bad because the enemy AI is bad.

the characters aren't very interesting, and the story isn't that compelling, IMO, and it has some forced drama.

the visuals are pretty beautiful, though, and you can tell that the developers really cared about doing right by Japanese culture and history.

I liked it. But it was over hyped for sure.

I liked the theme. Maintain your honor as samurai. Or do the sensible thing and toss honor aside and win by any means necessary when the opponent clearly has no honor themself

The promotional material made it seem like you'd have a choice on whether to remain honorable or not, which is absolutely not the case.

Only played about 3 or 4 hours of it. It was pretty boring. Taking over strongholds or whatever they called them was really boring. The combat sucked and the stealth was even worse.

I seem to remember having a choice for the most part. A few missions aside you can tackle places head on or be sneaky. I also recall two endings.

But either way I liked the story. Cause the MC clearly struggled with the choices he had to make. It wasnt like he said fuck it ninja is superior right away.

I personally like games where stealth is a choice but facing enemies head on isnt so hard you feel forced to go stealth

I loved the game myself, though around the third area it was really starting to drag. Plus during the day it's so bright I had to wait until it was night ingame to really do anything because it hurt my eyes.

Idk it depending on some varibles that I now cant recall that dictated if I went stealth or not. I think hostages or whatever was one thing where I insisted on stealth cause realistically it made more sense.

Loved it, got the platinum and everything. I don't normally go for those kinds of Assassins Creed/open games anymore but GoT did everything really well. Same as Horizon Zero Dawn I think.

My only complaint is that the main character is kinda... dull. He's like if they made Liam Neeson's character from The Phantom Menance the lead guy of this game.

Hes about what id expect of a guy with the upbringing he had.

But I'm also used to games where the side characters are infinitely more entertaining. Like most gta games until V.

It's not a bad game. I'm not a fan of games that forgo a minimap for immersion, but nothing I can do about that.

I also thought it was going to be a Souls like, so I avoided it at first. But the combat is fun. And as has been mentioned, I liked the story and how Jin struggles with fighting with honor or doing whatever it takes to win. I wish they had made it more impactful to the player though. The cutscenes still talk about Jin's dishonorable fighting, even if you announce yourself whenever possible.

All in all, I enjoyed it But yeah, if you have open world fatigue, this game isn't exactly groundbreaking, so it will feel kind of boring.

Well you are forced at least a couple of times iirc. And once is too many for a man like jins uncle

the bamboo challenges and the 1-on-1 fights are dope, but the stuff you spend 95% of the game doing is the same boring AssCreed nonsense thats been plaguing gaming for a decade.

at the end of the game, there are a bunch of missions where the game ends if you cause an alarm or enemies see you

It's a really good take on Ass Creed, but I just don't think it's possible to make Ass Creed wholly satisfying. The quests are largely really bad, even the main story ones are mostly a whatever affair because the characters they revolve around are as interesting as wet paper. The combat is somewhat satisfying if a bit depthless, but the game is just so long and there's almost no combat variety. It has some of the best bow play in a game that wasn't a shooter that I've played, but by the late second or third act the game gimps bowplay by giving most enemies helmets that bounce arrows. My favourite aspect of the game is the quieter "non"-gameplay moment, just traversing the beautiful vistas or climbing the shrines that barely counts as puzzles. I had to put the game down after I finished the second act and just leave it for a month or so before I came back and finished it, because there's just so much of it with so little differentiation, I couldn't do it anymore, and certainly on a replay I wont do all the side stuff and clear out regions before progressing the story. But despite such harsh criticism, I'm glad I played it and I'll probably give it another go with the DLC one of these days.

There is enough divisiveness here that I am going to wait for it to go on sale first. I am likely going to just play Red Dead Redemption 2 some more instead..but I was sorta wanting some Japan roaming open world like game and with the director's cut, I was thinking of trying it but will just wait and see for now. Thanks for the information all

You can probably get the base game for cheap and buy the DLC later if you want it.

I know if you buy the PS4 game, you can get the ps5 upgrade for 30 dollars more(I think?) I'm still going to wait on a sale for now. I have plenty of games.

It does good on what's already been done before

its still your generic AC style sandbox game

really pretty visuals and satisfying combat. But definitely nothing new. I got bored halfway because its the same old stuff. Take over bases, do a few story missions, collectables here and there, rinse and repeat.

may be an unpopular opinion but i think this game would've done way better if they had a more linear approach.

thankfully theress a game that already did that, and its called Sekiro. 100% better in every way IMO.

Pretty much yeah.

Standard PS4 version upgrades to Director's Cut PS5 version for $29.99
Director's Cut PS4 version upgrades to Director's Cut PS5 version for $10

But yeah, if you already have plenty of games, then no rush. The standard version was $40 on the playstation store just a few months ago. It will go down in price again I'm sure.
