Nah, they shouldn't. You have to clearly outline that:

  • In order to maintain your property, you arranged for the roof to be replaced
  • You arranged a reputable roofing company to arrange this
  • When it rained, you found the roof leaked
  • The roofing contractors have attended to repair it
  • If the roof wasn't faulty, the storm wouldn't have caused the damage

If they play hardball, then I guess just get an estimate to fix the damage, ask the insurer how much your premium will go up, and work out which is more economical for you. If your premium goes up like $1000 per year but the cost of the damage is $2000... well, easy decision

Oh shit. That's bad. I bet the roofing company is just going to want to patch it and forget it.
They claim that they will rip the wood panels out to replace the metal flashing. They said theyll bring their interior subcontractor out to repair the inside damage. They also said if I want, I can pick my own contractor and they will pay out if its comparable to the subcontractor.

As of today afternoon, they are singing a completely different tune I really wonder if the other roofers called my roofer that Im trying to lawyer up.

Hurricane Ida's fallout is causing significant amount of rain today, so they cancelled the repairs scheduled for today. Good news, though, is that whatever bandaid they did worked: no more leaking.
