Saving a dogs life over a human kid is extremely selfish to the point of being outright immoral. That being said, I see absolutely no scenario where I magically can save toddler or a dog and not both. Even if the dog was a large one I would have no problem carrying - or at worst dragging - said dog while holding a toddler.
