You know, had the same structure and story, but was completely different in gameplay, execution and levels?

Sonic Unleashed, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, tons of licensed games, etc.
That was kind of a fun era tbh. It was like you were getting 2 games of the same title, nowadays its probably too much work to do that and easier to just downscale everything to the lesser hardware.

Splinter Cell Double Agent was one too. Not 100% different, but much better structure.

There was a version of Turok Evolution on the GBA that was a Contra-style run'n'gun and was massively better than the "full" version.

I liked for a while console games got portable "companion" games almost. Castlevania Lords of Shadow had the Mirror of Fate game on the 3DS. Epic Mickey 2 had Epic Mickey Power of Illusion. Batman Arkham City I think had Batman Blackgate or something.

I remember that happened a lot in the SNES/GEN era, e.g. with Shadowrun, Aladdin, etc. There wasn't even a huge difference in hardware power to explain it.

Daikatana had that famous GBC version that plays like Zelda and is said to be better than both the PC and N64 version

There was even a very brief moment, probably like a 1 year window where this happened with PS2 and PS1/N64 games too

Not tried that, but it can't be hard to be better, haha.

It was also cool to have 2 genuinely different games on the same system that unlock content in each other (Oracle of Ages and Seasons).

Also i just recently found out something that made me wanna make this topic.

Disney's Rataouille, since it was released in 2007, the transition period between 6th and 7th, the game was released on everything it could. It has SIX COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VERSIONS.

The Wii/PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/PC version
The PS3/360 version
The Game Boy Advance version
The DS version
The PSP version (yes even the PSP is its own game)
And finally, the mobile version

Jesus, If you love that movie you got 6 games based on it.

Even in the same gen, some PS2 versions of games were stripped down compared to the Xbox

Max Payne and Splinter Cell come to mind

I remember Dynasty Warriors 6 had swimming on the PS3 version. Didn't have a PS3 at the time, so I had to get the inferior PS2 version. Although I give 0 fucks about swimming. Can't remember if there were other differences.

I was always interested in the Dead Rising wii "demake", Chop Till You Drop. Looked terrible.

I have the Wii exclusive Overlord game, Overlord Dark Legend. They released something like three different Overlord games on the same day. 2 for 360 PC and PS3, Dark Legend for Wii, and Minions for DS.

Dark Legend was alright. Super short, but it's the only one in the series with an actual connected world. You can walk from your castle to the town to murder people without needing fast travel. There was a limited amount of minions, only 25 compared to the 360 version's 50, but the graphics were pretty good for a small scale third party Wii game.

Its Dead Rising remade in the RE4 engine. Take that for what you will.

That's because the Wii was closer in power to the PS2 and so the Wii helped keep that system alive into PS3's lifetime.

Reminds me of arcade games that would get ported to NES/Famicom, Master System, MegaDrive/Genesis, and Super Famicom/SNES. Pretty sure each of those consoles has its own uniquely designed variant of Double Dragon

Don't forget when games would have a console version and a completely different handheld version. That was cool.

The Wii release of Rock Band did not have online capabilities, but it did have a good chunk of the DLC already bundled with the base game

Which is pretty strange, considering that Rock Band 2 for the Wii had complete feature parity with the 360 and PS3 versions. ;>_>
