And I don't know about anyone else but this offends me as a White person. Like if some weird as shit went down in my house, I would GTFO with a quickness. I would not investigate at all. I'd leave the house, I'd call my friends and family about it, call the cops, call a spirit medium or whatever is practical.

What's worst is if I ask a lot of my White friends about how they feel about this stereotype and they mostly all accept this about themselves.

Honestly people who say horror characters make dumb mistakes don't realize a lot of people irl would do the same in that situation. Including tripping.

Okay but the only reason it's bad for them to be skeptical is because they live in a fictional world where stuff like that actually exists, not the real world.

I saw the movie Malignant this past weekend and SPOILERS

The MC literally went back and stayed at her house where her husband was brutally murdered and where she was scared to death by a mysterious entity. No normal person would ever return to that house right?

Remember when the dad guy (white) decided to look up and get blood dripped into his eye instead of just getting the fuck away from whatever was dripping, knowing full well it was an infectious virus making the zombies?

if we are talking about horror movie tropes,

I'm more annoyed that they make the man a skeptic and a woman the lead a the believer of these supernatural entities.

k mean I get that women are more superstious in general IRL, but this is a tried trope.

Hollywood horrors are racist against White people and sexist against men. I'm so triggered right now.

If you're talking about White people being portrayed as atheists or religious skeptics, that's writers or producers putting themselves into the characters.

If you're talking about how Black people in movies are quick to believe in ghosts and White people refuse to, even when there's evidence of the supernatural, that goes back to old racist stereotypes about who's superstitious and who's not. Just because we try to move on from racist, that doesn't mean there aren't still lingering traces of it in the decisions that people make when writing stories.

Which was always dumb. Who isn't afraid of ghosts?

That's usually the case in horror movies. Characters are in high stress situations doing rushed actions and making mistakes.

Im half white/half mexican or something. I check out the sound. Because I believe there's a logical reason for everything. So far, Im pretty sure I haven't been murdered. I however, don't look when in the woods, because animals definitely exist. I gtfo. Came face to face with some doe the other month and just ran to be safe lol. I'm in the woods a lot, but I don't research animals.

No it's not. The usual case is someone wants to investigate when it's obviously a demonic mother fucker over there in the complete darkness.

In those cases, characters aren't entirely sure it's a supernatural being and want to confirm they have nothing to fear.

In real life, most people wouldnt automatically assume demons are real. Someone with nuts would go and check it out. Easy for audience to call them dumb because audiences know something bad is going to happen. Characters in the film are in the shit
