IIRC, like half of the episodes in the second-to-last season were about Will and Lisa, at the end of it they decide not to get married, and then she literally never shows up again in the final season. If this is a dramatic take on the original story, naive and inexperienced Will looking younger than "privileged son of a powerful, rich man" makes sense.
