Health Canada has authorized 3 new COVID-19 Vaccine names which has now been approved in the country as they had no names previously and generally were referred to only by the company's names.

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will now be named Comirnaty and Moderna will be named SpikeVax and AstraZenica will be VaxZevira

There's no changes to the vaccine themselves but only given names and it marks the approval of these vaccines for those 12 and over

They noted when the companies submitted their vaccines to Health Canada to seek approval under the Food and Drug REgulations it included brand name changes after review of all the required data on safety, efficacy and manufacturing processes

The new vaccine names are already being used for promotional purposes in the EU and the US

Moderna will also build a plant in Canada after Justin Trudeau made a deal to to build one here for future outbreaks as he said the need for a homegrown vaccine facility is needed. It will be built in either Ontario or Quebec

Moderna said it was pleased with Health Canada's approval of its SpikeVax vaccine however some are worried about confusion on the name change and may avoid it if they are not named by the company name

I'd much rather take a Pfizer than a Comirnaty, and I'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather take a Moderna than a "Spikevax"

They are all very bad, but SpikeVax is just truly awful. Who came up with that because they should find a different line of work.

True. Flu shots have terrible names, but not a single person is ever going to ask for them by name
