I have stopped playing games as much as I used to because of MTX and the common "Put out shit on release date because we can patch it later" and other issues.

I don't touch mobile games at all anymore since almost all have some form of "Energy" system that cost money or uses a system that without money makes any kind of meaningful progress impossible to do in any sort of decent time frame.

You have company's that abuse peoples wallets like EA, Games Workshop, and others to the point that poorer people can't even get into the ecosystem at times.

You have companies that are so controlling you can't really do anything to show your enjoyment with their products (Nintendo and Games Workshop come to mind)

You have companies that don't want you to do anything that results in someone else making money in regards to their products, best example is John Deer and their tractors being made to be almost impossible to work on yourself or independent mechanics

And the hundreds of thousands of companies with the designed obsolescence of their products. I mean hell I heard an ad on the radio for AC repair that said "ACs last about ten years now" And I am like, I have three AC units on our ranch that are 40 years old and other than needing the basic maintenance on them, we never had an issue with them. But I do know that a few coworkers with houses that aren't that old has had to have theirs replaced.

This world is just a sad place now, so much greed and no honor

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

Dude I hate that. Happens a lot with me at Chick-fil-A. Order their strips and one or two of them are half the size of the others.

The subscription model is what has killed me in the industry. I refuse to support any product that adopts a subscription model. If they don't offer perpetual licensing, I ain't buying it.

The indie game market is probably at an all time high atm.

I was fine with it for some online games, but the shift to subscription models for stuff like Office really piss me off, especially where the vast majority of Office hasn't seen a meaningful functional update in two decades (though a 365 subscription opens up some really nifty features in Excel).

I agree that all of those things suck, but the gaming ones in particular always come off as being melodramatic, like it's the end of gaming. There are hundreds if not thousands of games that are pretty easily available that don't do that crap. And people will say "we shouldn't stand for that or the industry will get worse", but people were saying that ten years ago, and in that time those practices in some way have improved (and in some ways gotten worse).

More than microtransactions, and someone did allude to this, the next big potential pitfall seems to be the service model. Game pass seems cool but I don't want it to turn into something where that's the only option, and things get dropped off like Netflix with no easy way to get them. I mean that kinda already happens somewhat with purchased digital games but it's rare. Plus there's a big difference between an end of lifed platform making a game unavailable for purchase, but you can still play it if you already bought it, vs an active platform dropping your access to something you may have already been in the middle of playing.

At least it's not a product you pay up front for, also requires a subscription AND has microtransactions...
