(Disclaimer: I am "drunk" so I don't know if this works as well as I think.)

You are walking through a wide open grassland. Just miles of grass, as far as the eye can see. Suddenly, a voice in your head, which you have no reason to distrust, tells you there is a lion merely a few miles away from you. It tells you that this lion is hungry, and that the lion specifically wants to eat you.

You look north, east, south and west, and everywhere inbetween. You see no lion. But the voice tells you again "the lion is even closer now, and it is coming even faster".

It's maybe 30 seconds, if that, since you first heard the voice. You look around again. You see no lion. Yet no sooner do you finish this check, than - without you ever seeing it coming - the lion kills you.

How does this happen?

I was in general thinking "the lion is coming from above", hadn't really thought about the "how it got there".

By that logic, your answer does contain all the required elements, so you got it.

And yes, the lion would die too, but nothing in the riddle says it wouldn't, just that it "wants" to eat you.

How would you not notice the helicopter approaching? Even if youre not looking up itll still be in your field of view as it approaches if its doing so from miles away. Plus its loud

It's a stealth helicopter.

Maybe the lion was the voice in your head. It was actually a tiny lion in your ear telling you it was gonna kill you and then it eats your brain, killing you without you ever knowing it was there.

If the south pole had grassy plains capable of sustaining lions then looking n/s/e/w would not reveal a lion hiding directly on the south pole.

When it attacked you it would be coming from above if you were just south of the pole.

But the lion would need a fur coat and hat to survive.
