hmmm I thought I had tried it before, but turns out that Syberia is not the same as Cyberia. pretty sure what I played was Cyberia 2.

They are good old school style point and click adventure games that came out after the heyday of that style. They are worth checking out if you like that type of game.

There's an overarching story to all the games, though it's not overly important and it might not do much for you (or you might really love it, depending). But the main structure of the game is that you're moving from place to place, and each area becomes a mostly self-contained field of play where you explore, learn bits of the narrative, and generally point-and-click adventure your way through minor puzzle solving.

One of the main draws of the game originally was how great the visuals were (similar to Myst back in the day - this could very much be seen as being in the same style of game), but that might be less of a selling point now, compared to modern graphics and expectations.

For a free game, you really can't do wrong just picking them up to try them out. Worst-case scenario you don't really like them and just wind up wasting a few hours of your time. But you might wind up really loving them.
