I haven't played FF1 or Dissidia, but apparently people are saying it's going to be tying into all that stuff (and Fabula Nova?)? In regards to Garland and Tiomat and stuff. Can someone explain what these theories all are to someone who hasn't any clue about the lore of those games?

Should I play them prior to Origins coming out in case the stories are all linked?

Trying to tie together games of a series that aren't direct sequels or prequels is a bad idea. Didn't make sense for Zelda, makes even less sense for FF.

Doesn't really matter, they already did it with Dissidia anyway. But it takes place in another universe and the characters' memories are erased when going back to their own, so it also doesn't change the main games.

Square Enix would kill the salad dressing... and the lettuce.... and the bowl, the table, the waiter, and the music (unlike most of these other attempts at Soulstuff by third-party devs) ~ I mean, look at the whole in our hearts left by stuff like FFO & KH3...... People are still talking about Fallen Order & Tsushima. Elden Ring is right around the corner. Resident Evils left its fans thirsty for more 3rd person. The atmosphere would be right to try a stab at something more classic. Pokmon gets away with doing all these different styles all at once.

It seems to be a retelling of FF1, so you probably wouldn't need to play that for context. The original barely has any lore to catch up on anyway (you could probably read a full plot summary in a minute or so).

Dissidia's tie in with the rest of the series is also fairly quick and simple (because it really doesn't matter outside of providing an in-universe explanation).

Supposed to be a Japanese depiction of an American hero going through FF worlds. FF13 is already confirmed to be a part of it.
