the different countries from all over the world should have made an effort to block all international travel for a month or so back in June.

then each country could assess, if some countries are doing fine, allow travel again, if some countries are a Petri dish, no travel for people who have been there in the last 30 days.

instead nowadays we keep hearing about new variants coming from certain countries, and that the variant hasnt spread yet and they still allow travel and then it gets here invariably

I don't think so. If a few countries managed to contain it, the other countries would go "It's under control!" and take no drastic action. The drastic action that could have prevented would only ever have been taken in the event that it got as bad as it did. If China had managed to contain it and they'd been on strict lockdown for two years, we'd still be years away from a vaccine.

Like it was possible but we would've had be extremely drastic on a global scale immediately. The knowledge and will to do so just weren't there.

Like in timelines all diverging from it first being discovered at the same time...probably 1 in a billion avoids a pandemic spreading outside China at all.

we arent communists though, impossible to get entire population to cooperate the way our countries operate, blame mass murdering politicians all you want but it wasnt as easy to deal with as youre making it out to be

Not avoided, no. But certainly less deadly and shorter had borders been shut earlier, and lockdowns and mask mandates enforced.

I don't think you could prevent a virus like this. It's too contagious. It can be in the air, on surfaces, people that have it can be asymptomatic. So even if we did our best to contain it, many people that didn't even know they had it would have spread it. Even China with their brutal containment procedures couldn't contain the virus.

I don't think it's America's job to be the world police or whatever but:

1. There was a massive leadership shortage.
2. The UN can kiss my *** because they are useless
3. We needed a real lockdown and travel bans. Stop people from going on these cruises.
4. Even with the advent of a vaccine, we still have ignorant people who have decided to hurt others. The government can't microchip your vaccine because they aren't competent enough. Also, those people are walking contradictions and fill me with rage.

But we could have been so much better

mandatory vaccinations will save some lives for sure, it won't get rid of the virus though, this isn't measles, it mutates too quickly not to mention the vaccine wears off over time, impossible to contain the virus, we have 8 billion people on the planet, absolutely no way we can produce 8 billion shots every 6 months or whatever while developping new shots for every variants always, it's just going to end up like the flu, better get used to it

considering the virus came from certain Asian country (which I may get moderated if I name it) and then went to Italy, a real President could have banned travel from people who have been to said Asian country and to Europe in the last 30 days.

the original strain hit the west coast pretty hard and the strain from the UK hit NY pretty hard.

add mask mandates on top of that and a good 1 month lockdown and wed have done very well
