Sonic 2 is great.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles was my favorite as a kid, but after a replay on the brilliant Sonic 3 AIR, the game only really becomes fun at the Sonic & Knuckles half. Sonic & Knuckles as one game is sufficient, S3 I can live without. The most fun part about Sonic 3 was the final S3 boss which was removed for the Sonic playthrough when the cartridges were connected (became a Knuckles only fight when the cartridges were locked) and re-added for AIR. Sonic 1 is completely un-fun, with so many slow platforming parts where you just have to wait, it's equivalent to watching paint dry. Sonic CD is interesting but once you remember where the robots are in the past it loses any replay value. --- The Phantom has spoken! ... Copied to Clipboard!
