No, frankly not even Japanese people are all that impressed by it beyond the absolute basics. There's actually a commonly-held belief in Japanese society that people who are not of fully Japanese descent are neurologically incapable of learning the language to fluency. Seriously. It takes twice as long to learn as practically anything other language on the planet and that's your reward: the people who speak it will constantly treat you like an idiot because nothing will convince them you're really as fluent as you sound.

The tiny minority of Japanese women who do want to date a foreigner don't particularly want one who speaks Japanese well anyway, they want someone to practice their english with.

I know this is a troll/joke topic, but I think most people tend to be impressed (in America) by anyone speaking a second language at a decently high level when it isn't a language common to the States.

This is valid as a generalization about second languages as a whole, but for this specific case, basically the only L1s that would make Japanese easier to learn would be Chinese (which would only help with written Japanese, and it wouldn't help much if the culture you know it via uses simplified characters) or Korean (which would help heaps with grammar, but not much else).

too bad there isn't a single L1 that significantly helps learning japanese? korean grammar is only very vaguely similar and the characters in chinese are not read the same way in most situations. what a fucking annoying attempt at a gotcha, get the fuck out of here
