-The Roost added to the museum. You can drink coffee and can run into island residents. You can also use amiibo's and amiibo cards to invite characters of your choosing.
-Kapp'n is added. He can take you to different islands with different times of day, seasons, etc..
-Harv's island is getting shops. Harriet is added. Sahara, Kicks, Redd, and Leif. Katrina is also there with fortunes, and Harriet has hairstyles
-Group Streching
-You can now create ordinances including "Beautiful Island Ordinance" "Early Bird Ordinance" "Night Owl Ordinance" and "Bell Boom Ordinance"
-Storage now up to 5000 items
-New Nook Mile Items added
-Cooking is added
-Pro Decorating Licensee allows more decorating ability like hanging things from the ceiling More design options available.
-Pro Construction License allows 10 bridges and 10 inclines

-Polish furniture and some effects may be added

Tortimer was also seen on Harv's island, but they didn't make it clear what he does there. Plus Reese and Cyrus with the ability to customize more furniture (including changing between normally locked furniture variants).

Plus the DLC lets you eventually unlock the ability to flat out design your villagers' homes (as well as use the partition walls and things in your own home).

Kind of hard for me to get too excited about this update. Hopefully they have some QoL updates that are either not announced here, or are coming later. (Is a Scythe too much to ask for Nintendo? I just want to get rid of all those stupid flowers on my island without taking 9 days to do it in real time) The paid DLC is a bit overpriced at $25.00. Like EA isn't even that bad with Sims 4, and their stuff is outrageously priced. For that price, you should be allowed to have a second island on the same system IMO. That'd make it worth the price.

The Roost is nice, but I wish it were its own building. Same with the shops on Harv's island. I just want to fill my town up with more stuff. Make it feel like a real place.

As far as QoL stuff: A villager tracker would be amazing. I really hate having to search 90% of the island to find a villager.

They showed Tortimer offering you access to your storage, so you can get items out to (for example) have Reese/Cyrus customize them.

It's hard to say what I want to do. Realistically, it's very unlikely I'll be interested in going back to it more than a year from now, so it's probably safe for me to just buy it as part of NSO. But still I dunno. =/

That's a pretty interesting answer and honestly better than my assumption so I'm happy with it.

It also makes you again wonder if Nintendo makes this apply to future DLC for other games, that DLC may also have some components that are permanently unlocked and some features that are lost.

I'll probably just buy the DLC and wait until the NSO upgrade is actually worth it. I don't think I'm going to be desperate to play any Genesis games that I can't already play in the near future.

I guess I'd just prefer stuff more for my main island, than some side island I can't see using much. Like the facilities seem cool, but they'd be a lot cooler if you could put them on your island. Like a restaurant that's somewhat functional, on my main island? That'd be awesome. But it sounds like it'll be stuck to that one island.

I'd heavily argue this.

Most of the expansion packs offer "new gameplay" in the form of "go to X place and do the stuff you can already do, except with maybe one or two new animations."

They're alright if you're a super avid Sims player, but I think saying "a ton of new gameplay" is being waaaaay too generous for a good 80-90% of the packs. Very few expansion packs offer something unique.

And that's specifically only the expansion packs. The other packs they offer don't give any new gameplay whatsoever.

particle effects on furniture

That's literally it. I guess if you really love HHD, this might be worth 25 bucks, but for the vast majority of players, it's a total bust

Considering how well the original game sold as a standalone game, I'd argue that you are in the minority of considering the DLC as a bust.

It's okay, not everyone who plays Animal Crossing is into decorating.

Well New Leaf sold 13 million copies and HHD 3 million. That's a 23% attach rate. Not terrible, but certainly not a majority.

other way around! $25 is a lot for what you get, so $40 was highway robbery!

I do think there's a side of casuals who are like "I already bought animal crossing, why would I need this?", and I think it came out relatively late in the 3ds life? not Warioware Gold late, but still late.

That said, 3 million still isnt anything to scoff at.

3 million in sales is very difficult to pull off, especially for a spin-off. I'm not arguing that the majority of NH owners will purchase the DLC, but the vast majority of players didn't see the announcement as a bust. At most, a large portion had a "cool, not buying it" attitude.

Also even if it got the same attach rate (and given the price and it being attached to NSO, this might be a low ball) we are still looking at a 8-9 million in sales.

If anything it's surprising Nintendo is potentially throwing away a 3-5+ million selling game at $60 to make it a $25 DLC that's included with their new NSO expansion.

I mean, the most barebones Sim expansions basically just give you more chairs and clothes, so that's just flat our inaccurate.

This isn't to completely insult the Sims. The expansions that actually give considerable new content are great, but many of them barely add anything at all.

$20 Stuff packs - more chairs and clothes
$30 Game Packs - A new gameplay feature like new skills and their related career, plus some chairs and clothes related to it.
$40 Expansion packs - Multiple new gameplay features, multiple sets of chairs and clothes, and usually new world/neighborhood themed around that stuff.

While this is true, there are wide varieties in the Expansion passes, too. Some are great and add a lot of new gameplay, and some are "The same stuff you can already do but it's in an area that looks different."

Comparatively, the AC DLC is basically Expansion pass level, but for $15 cheaper. Or $5 more than "more chairs and clothes."

Either way, I didn't mean for this to turn into bashing/defending Sims. It just seems kinda silly to compare the two, especially when you consider this is one DLC pack for AC which was formerly a $40 game, vs. hundreds of dollars of DLC for Sims and most of it being the "more chairs" type.

That said, I do think Sims would look a lot better on the DLC front if there weren't so many Stuff packs, and if they had combined some of the Game/Expansion packs.

To be fair, Sims 4 Expansions go on sale all the time. I picked up Cottage Living and Snowy Escape recently for $20 each. (Cottage LIving wasn't released that long ago, either) And the Stuff packs are only $10.00 not $20. Game Packs are $20.00.
