How come 3 wasn't popular?

That's when EA took over the franchise.

First game was the best at horror.

Second game was the best overall, extremely fun while still being creepy. Reminds me of a scarier RE4.

The third game wasokay.

Theyre absolutely worth playing.

I liked the first one for a few hours but the scares become really predictable and I got tired of the limited ammo (I know it's a survival horror but yeah).

Yes. Play all of them. In order obviously. 1 closely beats out 2, with 3 a bit behind in terms of fun factor

Did you play on the hardest available difficulty? That's what I did the first time, and yeah ammo is scarce in the beginning. Pretty soon though you'll have more ammo than you know what to do with, especially if you stick with the plasma cutter

Not really.

Absolutely generic gameplay and setting.

Really atrocious storyline.

Terrible at atmosphere and game design. It does not understand structure or pacing or horror at all. Just throwing monsters going "LBAHGHGHSHGHAJKFg!" at you in dull gray corridors over and over for several hours

It has a couple of cute touches likes making limb shots important and headshots worthless, invalidating decades of shooter assumptions.

But it's a pretty weak series. There's a reason why it ultimately failed. It's possibly the only franchise in history where the best entry into the series was a cash in on rails shooter.

Compared to horror games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil or Pathologic it's poor

And compared to sci-fi games like Mass Effect or Alien Isolation it's poor.

System Shock 2 was superior decades before.

I've only played 1. It was... fine. Only real memorable part was how broken the ragdoll physics were.
