Too often in The Closer, it just sounds like Chappelle is using white privilege to excuse his own homophobia and transphobia.

also since the TC is race baiting, the argument is that Chappelle isn't recognizing that the rights of gay people could be considered more 'important' because White people are gay too so the scales tip in favour of gay rights when White people are realized of the group.

In The Closer, Chappelle eventually says he's jealous of the progress the gay rights movement has made in America. "If slaves had oil and booty shorts on, we might have been free 100 years sooner," he cracks.
But lines like that assume that the struggle over oppression is a zero-sum game that because some gay people have access to white privilege in America, all their concerns about stereotyping and marginalization are hollow and subordinate to what Black people face.
It ignores the fact that there are plenty of nonwhite gay people who face oppression for both their sexual orientation and their race. And, of course, opposing these public statements of homophobia isn't just about making gay people feel better; it's about keeping the anger and prejudice behind those words from becoming widely acceptable or turning into action.
Too often in The Closer, it just sounds like Chappelle is using white privilege to excuse his own homophobia and transphobia.

I used to quite like NPR, they still have their moments, but when it comes to art/entertainment criticism they are often out of touch, dense, and smug.

See I hate this terrible logic. I'll even admit that I found some of his jokes on this matter funny; regardless of whether I agree with them or not. But I'm a straight white guy, and there's a really high chance you are to. The fuck gives you or I the right to determine what is or isn't offensive to a transperson, for example, when we have absolutely 0 experience with their lives, thoughts, feelings et al.

I hate even responding to bad faith trolling but it's just so trashy. You types act like such tough guys but are far too cowardly to just outright admit that you're a hateful bigot.

I don't get to tell others what they can and can't be offended by, other's don't get to tell me what I can and can't be offended by.

Others don't get to tell me I have to care they are offended, and I don't get to tell others they have to care when I am offended.

That's how everything works.

I am proud of the empathy I have for those I even strongly disagree with, and I don't respect or care about the judgements of those who spend their time forming mobs of anger and hate.

It was something of an epiphany when I realized there are some people who will call everybody they disagree with bigots, and will call 0 people they agree with bigots.

So I realized "oh, you aren't mad at bigotry, you are mad at people who disagree with you, and you are trying to weaponize my empathy against me."

If people of character say you are being intolerant, it's good to pay attention, but a lot of people on the internet, when they say "that's racist/offensive/intolerant/phobic" what they are really saying is "you disagree with me, I don't like that, and so I want you to feel bad."

And once you see through the bullshit, it's a lot easier to just go: "lol no".
