So, Georgia is now #1. Iowa #2. Who is #3? Oklahoma?

Alabama is probably 6 or 7.

I hope everyone can just be happy with 6-0 because it's gonna have to be enough haha

of course I think we could win as a fan, etc.

we look totally badass in the conference rankings now so that's fun

I'm guessing Georgia > Iowa > Oklahoma > Cincy > Penn State > Bama will be the new ranking. With Cincy and Penn State potentially swapping

Oh right, I guess it would be that LSU year.

Feels so long ago after how thoroughly mediocre they've been since then!

I went ahead and went through all the AP polls.

Alabama and Clemson have been #1 a bunch in the last few years, obviously.

LSU at the end of 2019, when they were champs. Already pointed out.

Ohio State was the previous one before that that wasn't Alabama or Clemson... way back on November 1, 2015. It was allllll Alabama and Clemson throughout these years. Nothing interesting happened here - Ohio State sat atop the polls most of the season, eventually got leapfrogged by Clemson while both were undefeated, then later lost to Michigan State.

Florida State on November 23, 2014. Again, nothing super interesting happened - Alabama just leapfrogged them on the back of impressive SEC wins. Neither would have the last laugh as they were upset by respective underdogs Oregon and Ohio State in the CFP semis.

Mississippi State was the last TRULY weird entrant to be at #1, in fitting with the spirit of your question - on November 9, 2014. Remember that season where both Mississippi State and Ole Miss were really good? It was this one. Mississippi State got here because they had a bunch of really good wins while Alabama lost to Ole Miss, but sadly, Alabama came back for their revenge.

Notre Dame on December 2, 2012. This was, of course, just before Alabama squashed them like a bug in the BCS championship game.

Oregon on November 11, 2012. This was just for one week, as Alabama stumbled by losing to Texas A&M. #2 this week was... Kansas State. They would have surely taken over #1 after Oregon's loss to Stanford, but sadly, they got crushed by Baylor the same week, allowing Notre Dame and Alabama to take over and never look back.

USC in the preseason of 2012. lol. They slipped to #2 immediately just after not looking as good as Bama week 1. They finished 7-6 after losing their bowl game and did not receive votes in the final AP poll.

Oklahoma hasn't been #1 since September 18, 2011. Once again, they were simply leapfrogged by better performers and didn't actually lose for four weeks after this.

Auburn at the end of 2010, when they won the championship.

Florida on November 29, 2009. They were 12-0, they lost to Bama in the SEC CG, and that was that.

Texas was a unanimous #1 on October 26, 2008, over an undefeated Bama! They lost to Texas Tech, who rose to #2 as a result, but lost to Oklahoma before Alabama could slip to Florida later.

Georgia was #1 last, before they will presumably be this week, in the preseason poll of 2008, with 22 1st place votes to Ohio State's 21. After week 1, USC took over #1 with 21 1st place votes to Georgia's 20. Who knocked them out? It was Bama obviously did you even have to ask

Missouri was #1 for one glorious week on November 25, 2007, after having just beaten #2 Kansas, and with previous #1 LSU dropping a 3OT game to Arkansas. West Virginia was #2 this week. The 2007 season was awesome. Sadly, Kansas never hit #1, despite being undefeated underneath LSU's 10-1 team.

Miami (FL) is who you have to go all the way back to to get a new #1 on December 8, 2002. They were #1 for a couple of years there! They lost to Ohio State in the BCS championship and haven't been back since.

Nebraska was #1 on October 22, 2000. Remember when Nebraska was good? They lost to eventual champs Oklahoma.

Tennessee was #1 when they were champs at the end of 1998, and this feels like a good place to stop, since we're in the 90's now.

I do remember. This was when Dak Prescott was at Miss. State! This was also back in the first year of the playoffs when we thought they would be fun and not just the same six teams on a rotation!

And I remembered there was a year when Georgia was preseason #1, but I didn't remember exactly when it was.

Mizzou/Kansas being a battle for who might play in the BCS title game was so bonkers (of course, OU eventually had to ruin that and we got stuck with Ohio State getting boat raced by an SEC team for the second season in a row). I remember that year pretty distinctly because one of my college roommates was a huge Mizzou fan.

also while we're on the subject of chaotic ends to seasons with 2007, I think one of my all-time favorites was 2001, where literally so many highly ranked teams lost that we ended up with Nebraska in the BCS title game after losing by 30 points to Colorado in their last game

that's the kind of madness you only get in college football

of course that season also has its painful memories because Tennessee was one of those teams and 2001 was the last truly great Vols team (we've had some good and even very good teams since but none truly great like that team)

Nebraska feels like they are on the cusp of being decent again. They did do another typical Nebraska loss with a critical turnover, but Im still positive for the season. They will upset Ohio State or Iowa later this year I think.

Frost turned something around to where they arent just completely falling apart after being down.

Still want to see how the rest of the year plays out, and that Illinois loss is actually fucking awful, but this team has passed my pitiful expectations. Could easily have 5 or 6 wins this season instead of 3, but they still at the 3 wins. I think they finish with 6.

It's going to be "fun" seeing the majority of talking heads pick Iowa to get upset every week for the rest of the season. Just like they were against Maryland.

Any top 5 Big Ten team that isn't TOSU or Michigan is going to be the "HUGE UPSET POTENTIAL" pick week in and week out. MSU and PSU used to be in that same category, but times have changed.

As a Wisconsin fan, I am tired of the lack of respect. The SEC gets vaulted too much because of Bama, who just showed they're not unstoppable.

It's funny how people take the AP poll seriously anymore..

When the poll that actually matters comes out... They'll be at best like, 8th, doomed only to leapfrog certain teams who lose while teams behind them leapfrog them just by winning.

I'm more curious than I am hopeful about this georgia kentucky game

just looking at the SEC schedules, it's so terrifying to see Arkansas go to Georgia and score 0 then go to Ole Miss the next week and score 51

but I do believe Stoops et al can put some magic together to at least give them a game with two halves

we'll see!
