Oh yeah, the ending of Peace Walker always gets me. Makes sense since it's the real MGS5.

Big Boss finds out that not only The Boss wasn't loyal to her country after all but to the Philosophers, but that she basically sacrificed herself for nothing. This causes her to be a broken pedestal for him, and he vows not to waste his life like The Boss did, instead wants to create a world where soldiers like him are always needed.

What makes this especially tragic is knowing what you know in MGS4: he eventually DOES understand why she did the things she did and commends how brave she must have been to do it all alone. Combine that with him telling Solid Snake that if he was in his position, he wouldn't have made the same mistakes he did (solidifying Kojima's claim that Snake is the only heroic Snake in the series)

probably when *Spider-Man PS4 spoilers* Peter had to choose between using the serum to save infected people in New York over Aunt May, because he lived by the "great power meaning you have great responsibility" philosophy, no matter how hard it was, and seeing her die and him breaking down.

Yeah, had mega feels here. The motion capture and performances sold it to a degree higher than the last 5 Spidey movies.

To date, the part in Ghost of Tsushima when Taka is beheaded by Khan was also a gut punch because the acting and presentation was very well done.

Fire Emblem 4 part 1 is just an ongoing moment of sadness, the main character, Sigurd has to fight his best friend who ends up dying, his wife gets kidnapped and mindwiped by an evil cult, his family gets branded as traitors and he flees into exile, comes back to clear his name and his other best friend/brother-in-law and sister gets slaughtered in their way to help, then his dad dies in his arms, finally he is reunited with his wife but she has no memory of him and as she trying to remember, her new husband/brother kills Sigurd and his friends in a blazing inferno. Part 2 begins with actual child soldiers bearing arms to avenge their parents.

Ace Attorney 3: Seeing the picture of Mia & Maya as kids at the very end of the trilogy, and knowing that that was what their mother had kept with her as a source of strength for all those years, that she never forgot them after seemingly abandoning them, and that she had willingly given up her life to protect Maya in the end was fucking tragic. I can't make it through the ending without crying, between that and Godot's fate.

Ace Attorney 6: Apollo finding out that his foster father had been dead during all of the events of the case in the middle of the trial and subsequently breaking down mid-trial was heartbreaking.

In that same vein, the logs from Horizon: Zero Dawn's DLC about Concrete Beach Party are pretty sad. Weirdly, it's not even about the end of the old world. It's just two women who work at a dam who became friends when one of them was going through a divorce. Their jobs end up being the last ones to be automated, so they'll soon be out of work. They're kept around for a while, but they barely have any real duties, so they mostly just fuck around for a few months. They have theme days, one of which is a "beach party" next to the sluice gate. They form a two-women bad that uses the industrial sounds of the dam as musical accompaniment.

Eventually, their time comes to an end. They promise to stay in touch and there's every indication they will, but it hits a sort of melancholy gut punch because we've all had close friends that we lose touch with for one reason or another. And the last message they leave is especially poignant given the apocalypse that wiped out their world:

Dear Nobody,
The autocars are on their way. Mine will take me to my apartment in Cody. Hers will take her to the vertiport. She brought her luggage with her to work today. Everything she owns packed into two little suitcases. She's wearing the fanciest outfit I've ever seen her in. "It's for mom," she said. "She bought me this outfit, if you can believe it. Normally, like, who cares, but... I don't know, she's already dealing with a lot."
We walked through the dam today, listened to all these tapes, read all these messages. And maybe this is one of those "sign my yearbook, we'll never lose touch" things, but I'm not scared of losing Laura anymore.
We're family. We didn't inherit each other or settle on each other, we chose each other. No amount of distance, no number of jerks in bad suits or obsequious robots, are going to tear us apart. So listen: on the off chance that someone ever actually does stumble onto these things, here's the truth. There was this band called Concrete Beach Party. And for a second, it was the best band in the world. And you, whoever you are, are really, really lucky. Because you're the only person who ever got to hear them.

I could not agree more. Season 1 was sad, but this shit was so much worse. Kenny went through so much that in the end, when I got to this point, I refused to leave him to die alone, with Clementine going with him into the wilderness. I don't care if it is the 'worse' ending.
