Nearly every self identified centrist I've ever seen post on this board combined these characteristics

Pretty far right either politically or socially or both

Smug about their political independence even though they are in lock step with the right on the economic or social axis.

Far more anti-left than anti-right. (This is the most universal one)

And ignorant about where they actually are on the political spectrum (thinking that liking weed or not wanting to electrocute the gays or wanting free health care makes you "left leaning")

Like it is baffling how many times it has happened over there. "Oh this person is a Republican? They must hate immigrants, gay people, poor people, and want women to not have control over their bodies".

The thing is, you're absolutely right. There is tons of infighting in the parties, and not every person that is apart of that party is going to agree with everything. But that's not how people treat it.

Actually it's not funny, because when I try to clap back at them in their own left or right topics with clarity and common sense, they mark you for trolling (which you do get and cannot dispute because the mods claim your trolling too), but just look at how they're acting here! Don't tell me they're not just pulling rabbits out of a hat to get a rise out of us. Another common thing to note: Many people who are convinced centrists are really on the other side, believe the actual "center" to be a lot closer to their own position than it really is. (Another trait almost always seen in the same people, is that they'll define themselves as moderate but hold stances that are pretty extreme.)

A good anology to the current political environment is that a bunch of lambs became politically "woke" and self aware, empowered by this, they go on a tear only to not realize that their still just sheep. And before you get mad, "baaaaaaah", I'm a sheep too. If you don't think normal american citizens are just that, Sheep, sheep for votes, sheep for labor, sheep for taxes, then it doesn't really MATTER what individual sheep believe in, because they're not doing anything with their beliefs anyways. Someone else is (politicians/wolves) So if you want to get your wool twisted in a knot at your fellow sheep, go for it, but it won't solve nothing. Even if you win your argument and convert the other sheep...guess what....neither of your are wolves...you're still just sheep.

What would you accept as evidence of what I said? I can only say what I've observed over my almost 2 decades of being on Gamefaqs (ugh).

For example, if ledbowman says he's a centrist, that's a great example of the phenomenon I'm talking about. He's never posted a single left wing thing in the entire time he's been posting here, nearly every post he makes is attacking his perception of the left, and yet he thinks he can post about criticizing liberals from the left.

And many many of the people you're saying are not fascists are fascists. Not every single Republican or far righter are, but they in fact believe in a fundamentally different version of reality and politics than I do as evidenced by the fact that they tried to overturn an election with threats of violence.

You could agree with folks on a majority number of issues. The moment you disagree with them then all of a sudden, they claim you're some opposite party. Nevermind the countless posts you won't find of the person never supporting a specific accusation.

For example those who are quick shoot accusations one is a Trump or conservative supporter. Those types love to shoot that accusations, but have a hard time finding posts of said suspect supporting Trump, or all the time supporting conservatives. While also ignoring loads of posts criticizing conservatives and trump.

Or look at the Trump supporters or conservatives who do the exact same thing. For example, McConnell and Cheney of all people are RINOs because they went against dear leader at any point? Let's ignore the fact that people like McConnell is a willing partner in crime to push Trumps lies as long as he can push his conservative agenda.

My personal favorite is twisting into a pretzel to claim criticism means you are arguing both sides are equally bad. The tribalism in them says you must choose a side, and blindly support everything that side wants no matter what.

It would be, which is probably why the take is actually "If people from both sides regularly think you're on the opposite side from them, you're probably actually in the middle". Note how the nature of the disagreement is more specific, and no subjective judgement is made about right or wrong, unlike your strawman.
