Parents of a High School in Ontario, Canada have started a peition to have a principal FIRED because she listens to IRON MAIDEN which they believe is SATANIC MUSIC!!

400 people have signed a petition to transfer Eden High School Principal Sharon Burns and was started by parent, Debbi Lynn who wrote "As a concerned parent with impressionable children at Eden High School in St. Catharines, Ontario, we are deeply disturbed that the principal assigned to the school blatantly showed Satanic symbols and her allegiance to Satanic practices on her public school social media platforms where all the students can see them under @edenprincipal"

They said they didn't want to remove her for her love for Iron Maiden but rather her openly displaying her OWN handmade sign with the 666 sign clearly displayed on it

A petition in support of her however has over 10,000 supporters with some saying its ridiculous how some parents can only judge her role as a principal based on an instagram post for her like of british band, Iron Maiden. They say it's NOT a Christian School and said what she enjoys on her own time off school is her business.

Vox reported that Christian fundamentalism was growing at a time in the 80s when any sign of satasim is present, people panic and demand action taken but as religion is slowly coming down, people are more open to other beliefs.

The fear of Heavy Metal is always seen as the "work of satan" for its extreme lyrics and screaming.

Heavy Metal music uses satanic imagery. I bet I would have at least appreciated what she was trying to do.

Heavy Metal shouldnt present a barrier. It is a great way to connect with students. I bet a lot of them have jokes, as kids do. It might help students become more comfortable with their own identity, and not feel like theyre stuck in The Wall.

I mean, hell, they play Lucy In The Sky on the radio. Reading way too far into peoples private lives. Dont like the public? You got options.

That principal needs to up the irons more.

On that note? Can I just add? Theatrical heavy metal music on a professional level is an incredibly skilled craft, requiring the honing, the mastery, of mind body&soul. They all too often come to see themselves as gods, warriors in untold physical planes, reaching to the stars beyond conventional
experience. Theres nothing like the show. Its cerebral. That sort of thing.

As someone who is a huge friggin' Maiden fan, that song and album Number of the Beast was a story about a boy who wandered into the woods and accidentally stumbled upon a satanic ritual taking place. The song in no way glorified Satan.

Their songwriting lyrics are so diverse, covering subjects from ancient Egyptian mythology, world history, WW2, wars, sci-fi, you name it.

And their mascot Eddie is not a demon. Well he was on that particular album cover, but their genius album artwork depicts him as whatever they need him to be for the theme of the album: he was depicted as a zombie, a demon, a lobotomized mental patient in a straight jacket, a mummified Egyptian pharaoh, a futuristic cyborg, an alien, and most recent he was a Samurai!

I'm a bit of a metalhead and sometimes the satanic schtick actually comes across as silly and overdone to me a lot of the time, particularly in black metal. Maiden is probably the furthest thing from actual satanic metal though, and their very own drummer Nicko McBrain is actually a Christian.
