I wonder how many people had their ending ruined by picking a shot of Cindy's boobs or something.

I did this on a replay just because it's hilarious.

Well, what can I say? You guys... are the best.

Such a good quote. I'm pretty much gonna echo everyone else's thoughts. FFXV had some really good moments and I'm bummed it didn't get as much development love as it should've. We're always gonna wonder what it could've been like.

But damn, now I wanna replay this.

Yay for replays! Best part about any of these playthroughs is others getting the urge to dig back in!

And wow I didn't realise just how much they added in to this game. On the one hand it's pretty neat there were so many free upgrades, on the other... it should probably have all been in the base game and Day 1 FFXV sounds like it was super barebones >_>

We head back to past Lucis to bounce around aimlessly, completing sidequests and hunts and the like. Somehow the batteries we got for Cindy in Insomnia come with us back to the past, and as a reward- minor spoilers I guess for the people who didn't play Royal- she turns the Regalia into an airship! Lmao, of course.

We also do some open water fishing and check out Altissia again. Lots of hunts here including a monster in a painting- VI vibes! There's also an arena where you can bet on monster fights :O Back out on the ocean we meet the "second sea god" Bismarck, very cool looking. And we do some more cross country racing in our Regalia. Still plenty to do here before I get stuck, and I'll probs check Ignis's DLC out within the next few days. Now where are those rainbow frogs, and where are those keys for all those dungeon doors...

Episode Ignis done! This felt a lot like a 'final' DLC, seems like more attention/money went into this one than the others so far.

Iggy's combat is super fun. He's ridiculously OP but that just makes it more entertaining mowing through imperials or dragooning them from above! I didn't find the lightning daggers very useful but the others are great.

The mechanic of retaking the city was a bit simple, but it's still fun zooming around Altissia. Not sure if I'll be able to go back to non-hookshot Noctis after this! Also Titan in the background the whole time is great.

Plotwise, there's a lot here but not very much that's new. Ravus joins the party and has a great ability, but we didn't really get much more shading to him. I guess the problem here is that he should kinda be right about Luna not having to die to fulfill this prophecy etc, but this game is all about fulfilling destiny and all that so he has to be wrong (or does he???). Also Luna isn't very interesting >_>

Best moment of the DLC: Ardyn casually placing his hat on an imperial soldier. Ardyn is in top form for the Altissia portion of the DLC.

Ignis himself is pretty great, kinda feel bad for Prompt and Gladio that they didn't get this much attention because after this it's hard not to see Ignis as the Best Bud of Noct (Prompt is still my fav tho). Iggy tries to sacrifice himself just to spare Noct and they declare their love for each other multiple times! And in the credits he tells Noct they can stop their journey so he doesn't have to die :( Anyway he tosses on the ring and gets superpowers for a few minutes, then goes blind. This isn't important but he looks like an entirely different person without his glasses and his pointy hair.

I was pretty satisfied with the DLC if still a bit 'eh' with the plot, when I see a new verse open up after the credits where Ignis can accept Ardyn's deal and go into an alternate timeline! I was super excited going through this with the eerie prelude playing, but honestly much of the exposition we get is stuff we already knew. We wind up in a proper boss fight with Ardyn, which is more fun than the actual Noct v Ardyn final boss fight in the main game.

The big deal here is this new timeline, where Ignis offers to sacrifice himself so Noct doesn't have to die. Then Noct makes a deal so that Ignis doesn't have to die. It's that easy to outplay the system? Lol. Well everybody lives happily ever after (except Luna lolo), The End. Wait, what?? Was this a setup to the next DLCs, or a coda to make the regular ending less tragic? I guess I'll find out! As I think about it now, this does finally poke a hole in the whole 'destiny' narrative if Noct didn't have to die at all (but Luna did lolo).

I am excited to see where this goes next with Ardyn's DLC, if disappointed to know that it won't get properly concluded with the other DLCs being cancelled. Also I guess I should try Comrades soon, shame the multi has been taken down.

Episode Ignis is fantastic. He was already my favorite bro but holy moly did that push it into straight up unfair territory. And yeah, we're already in the territory of "feels bad, man" that all the remaining dlcs were cancelled, because they were setting up some really great stuff. On a related note, have fun with Episode Ardyn!

Hm, I might end up getting that book, maybe not. I'll see how Ardyn goes.

After far too many attempts Ignis finally beats Noct in that 1v1 hard enough for me to get the achievement. Woo! Eat my ass Noct. Ravus showed up to help out at the end, that was pretty handy.
I've done that and the Aranea one with Prompto, should probably go back and get the achievements on Gladio's DLC at some point.

Also while sailing we were informed we needed to earn the favour of the gods to get somewhere. OK? I'll just keep doing hunts and sidequests for now, hopefully things will show up along the way.

OK Sir Tonberries are too much for me right now, jeez >_>

OK so I've done most of the hunts, there's about 5 left and I'm a bit underleveled for them. Might have to actually grind for the first time, I'm around Lv70 atm. Also Sir Tonberries are a pain in the ass!

I'm hoping but not expecting to discover something new while flying around, but lo and behold I actually find something! Monoth Haven appears on the map north of the volcano, and I spend a long time trying to figure out how to get there on foot. The path is blocked all the way around and the Regalia-D doesn't want to go over the rocks. I wonder if I'm supposed to wait for that black chocobo chick to grow up so I can ride it over rocks, but then I notice how the yellow line on the map doesn't match up with the surroundings. I suddenly realise it's a road line.

I get the idea to try landing on it in the Regalia-F, not expecting it to work. And... it doesn't. I spend ages trying to get the timing right, but the Regalia explodes at the drop of a hat making me quite frustrated. I'm about to give up trying when one time I get a bounce on the road first before it explodes! Confession time: I quickly look this up at this point to check I'm doing the right thing because I don't want to spend hours on a fruitless endeavour. Turns out this is right! At one point I try flying in from the south rather than the north, and I land it first time. Phew.

Then I worry that I'm underleveled for this area because there's elite Malboros and the like around here. We find a bizarre dungeon where the rest of the party leaves and Noct goes in alone. I'm dreading the absurd battle difficulty here but... it's not a battle dungeon at all. It's all puzzles! I only do the entrance area of Pitioss Ruins before leaving the game tonight, but I love that this is here. Why would they tuck such an elaborate dungeon so far out of the way? IDK, but they put voice lines and everything in here so it must be a proper thing to do (though there's no quest). This game still has some tricks up its sleeve, huh. Cake, baby!

Yeah, I have to echo what everyone else said about the highs of this game being among the best in the series. It's too bad about the rest of the game.

Episode Ignis is great. It bumped Ignis up to a top 5 character in the series for me.

I never had any trouble with any of the hunts, even the ones I was underleveled for, since Gladio picked up so many healing items throughout the game that I was never in any danger of dying at any point. I think I game overed more trying to land the Regalia than in actual fights. Though I did level to 120 for Omega, but I felt like that was overkill when I went to fight him.

Landing the stupid flying Regalia is one of the less painful parts of the Pitioss Ruins experience, and I hated trying to land that thing on normal roads, much less on that short landing strip you have there. You're certainly in for an experience.

Very glad I'm not the only one who had this problem. When I first got the Regalia-F I was very excited, but it exploded on my first two attempts landing on a single straight road >_> I'm used to it now but it's def unintuitive.

So for a while I'm having a great time in Pitioss, there's some fun puzzles and neat mechanics here and I do like how it keeps things fresh (like how the five doors in that big room all open in different ways). As time goes on I notice the platforming limitations more- Noctis's movement doesn't seem to be designed for precision jumping, and my heart jumps every time he goes into his roll animation near the edge of a platform.

There's one room with a horizontally moving platform where Noct has to jump onto a thin block without letting the momentum carry him into the spikes, that took me a while. Then there's a really cool room with a Demon Wall-esque skull spike thing. Probs my fav room so far, I enjoyed traversing that one. I wish the overall aesthetic of the backgrounds was more interesting, because there's some good ideas going on with the statues and the like.

At one point Noctis seemingly gains the abilities of a mountain goat, scaling any wall that isn't a perfect 90 degrees, and this is where things start to get very rough. Checkpoints are few and far between and it is hard to tell where up and down are sometimes. Then after a very long slanty adventure we suddenly arrive in a 2.5D platforming section! I love the concept of this but again Noct's movements aren't perfectly suited for this kind of work. And I am learning to hate the spinning circles with openings in them.

Once that's out of the way I spend ages in a massive rotating room with a giant lady statue. I briefly consider jumping on her boobs towards the end but figure 'nah, they wouldn't have us do that to progress', and try a bunch of different routes. Eventually I try it and of course that is what we were meant to do >_> Then I spend another several tries climbing up and down her body trying to figure where to go next, before jumping off her hands and sliding down the hilt of her sword.

We have a rather terrible room immediately after that, and I swear the lighting in this place gets darker the further we progress. Did they have no time to make better environmental textures, or is the darkness supposed to be moody etc. Because really, it's too much! There are parts of this dungeon I love, but it's all a bit too slippy and way too dark to not be frustrating.

After all that we eventually wind up in the entrance room again, and taking my chance I run out and save. Not a clue how much of this is left so I'm leaving it for now, but this has been a bizarre experience. I wish the other dungeons in the game had Zelda-like puzzles like this, only with better platforming controls! And lighting! I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to even get to this point, this has been some experience all right.

Huh, I was near the end. There's quite a lot more platforming but it's all around the entrance room, and I go and clear up some stuff I missed earlier. We go up a lift and I'm unsure whether to expect a boss or some major event or something, but our reward is... a Black Hood. That's... it? I mean the description sounds nice and we already got hundreds of items in this dungeon but... I wanted more >_>

Well I think that's done with, it was quite the unique experience! Now I've only got a handful of quests on my list and I'm still only early 70s. No idea where those legendary frogs are or how to get those dungeon doors open, but next time I'll run around trying everything I can think of. Or maybe I'll start Comrades.

^I'll do that next! Not sure how I can get back to Omega but I'll figure it out. Hopefully my level stays the same if I have to go back a chapter or wtv.

I got lucky today. I've started doing the timed quests, and today's involved beating 100 Cactuar+Slactuar. Turns out they are amazing for grinding, giving a ton of XP and dropping juicy restorative items constantly. I leveled up quite a lot in a short space of time, probably too much but I knew that mission would only be around for today. Also while I was there I checked on a statue and got the Founder King's Sigil! Would never have known that was there otherwise. Next up is attempting to finish the hunts, Omega, the legend quests and that Lv99 siren lady.

Also I briefly tried Comrades, and I'm not feeling it so far. For one it's treated as a separate game now so I don't think I can fill all the achievements in the main game anymore. But in general it just seems kinda soulless and grindy. Maybe I'll get into it, but these kinds of raids etc are one reason why I've never tried MMOs, it doesn't appeal to me.

Alright, done with all the regular hunts. Daemonwall took me a couple tries and Melusine was much easier with a Ribbon and the new super saiyan + ability from the Founder's King Sigil. The Dead King Yojimbo looking guy was annoying, as any enemy with OHKO ability is. Also finished the legend quests.

Adamantoise is... something. Lol at the party commentary when they realise Noct's gonna fight it. Weirdly it isn't actually very difficult at all. It has very few attacks and doesn't kill often, the only challenge in the fight is its massive HP bar. Well, that and the godawful camera that tries to zoom into toise's skull every few seconds, and the targeting system really wanting the gang to hit its limbs instead of the head. Multiple ingame days later the toise is down and we reach the top hunter rank. No special reward or new quest or anything like that, sadly. Still don't have the key to unlock those dungeon doors >_>

IIRC, I had trouble finding the key too and had to look up the location of some of the dungeons that I hadn't completed and where to go next.

Well, that's embarrassing. After talking to everyone at HQ and nothing happening, I check the map again thoroughly. I find a dungeon I can't recall doing and, sure enough, when I get there we get a new mission to investigate Daurell Caverns. No idea how I managed this, I recall going to the fishing spot outside there a while ago and the dungeon was already marked on the map but I can't have ever set foot in it or the quest would've come up! Silly me.

So I'll do that next time but for now we're gonna deal with Omega. This is a fun boss fight, it has phases and multiple music tracks and really feels like a superboss! If only my partners didn't run to stand in the way of its giant death laser all the time :(

Thank goodness I have the Founder's King Sigil, because without it we'd have no hope against this thing. Even with it this fight still takes a long time (over an hour goes by without me realising >_>) and we go through a ton of healing items, but hey that's what they're for! We're never in real danger of losing thanks to the dozens upon dozens of Mega Phoenixes we've accumulated, but it's still pretty terrifying whenever Omega goes into berserk mode, puts up its red death sphere and charges around the field.

So with the talk of interdimensional travel, can we assume this is the same Omega as the one in V? I like that it's canonical that V characters can just travel wherever they like thanks to the dimension stuff in that game lol. Wonder who will pop up next! Shinryu maybe?

I meant to post earlier and completely forgot - I was going to say there was a dungeon I had completely missed, and I stumbled on it by pure accident (probably while searching for fishing spots? lol). Going on foot into the forest after the tunnel past Cape Caem I think? And just googled and sure enough that was the one, it got both of us...

Actually iirc there was something a little tricky inside the dungeon but yeah, you're overleveled for it at this point. I wonder how often people miss it if both you and I did (I don't think I found Pitioss naturally, pretty sure I read about it online, so you did good there!)

Ha, glad it wasn't just me who missed this one. I think the thing is there's no royal arm here, I assumed there was one in every dungeon so after I got them all I stopped looking.

The dungeon itself is pretty short and, yes, we're very overleveled at this point. There's green poisonous water everywhere but the real challenge at lower levels would be the Necromancers. The recommended level for this is 28 but the Necros are all Level 41, I can see them really messing with people going through this earlier on. The 'boss' is just an Iron Giant with a few regular enemies with it, nothing of note at all. Definitely a low tier dungeon, though at least there's a fishing spot.

Hooray, Ezma gave us the key and now we can open the seals! I'll do these in order, so first up is Keycatrich. I... hope the other dungeons have more intricate designs than this >_> After descending through dozens of identical boring looking rooms, we beat the boss Flan thing and get a new weapon for Prompto... which isn't as strong as his current one. Ah well! One down, seven to go.

I've done 5 of the extra dungeons now, and sure enough they all follow the exact same formula. A bunch of same-y simple rooms filled with enemies, some dead ends scattered around, one or two camp sites with bits of lore nearby, and a boss at the end. Not the most interesting dungeons, I've gotta say. The enemy choices are really weird, there's seemingly no consistency to them. They're not local to the area, they're not usually the same type of enemy as the boss, they just seem incredibly random.

Things were starting to get a little harder in the fourth dungeon (Daurell) because of all those annoying crabs that one-shot you if you're standing in front of them. Also a random Malbodoom and some Sir Tonberries here and there, but nothing we couldn't handle. Using the Ring of the Lucii on the Custards was very satisfying.

But then the fifth dungeon (Baoulve) is significantly easier and shorter than the fourth! This all seems so haphazard. Well, three more to go, then I'll move on to Ardyn's DLC. I wonder who Ardyn's oblig 1 on 1 post-DLC fight will be with. Gladio faced Cor, Prompto faced Aranea, Ignis faced Noctis, the only playable character who hasn't been involved with any of these is... Iris!

Welp, be careful what you wish for. We finally get a different environment in Steyliff, no dead ends, but also dozens upon dozens of rooms and enemies. I didn't keep count but this was long. Again there was little consistency between enemies, but I really dislike those little Tonberry ****s now >_> They have way too much HP.

I've never felt prouder of myself as a gamer than when I realised I could warp through the closing gates if I got there fast enough. I only succeeded a handful of times but each one felt like a major victory, avoiding a whole room of 4 Tonberries woo!

After all the work the boss is thankfully pretty easy, but now we have two more dungeons ahead of us, and one of them apparently disallows items. Yikes, hopefully they're not as long as this one was!

Nothing noteworthy about Crestholm.

Now Costlemark on the other hand! Honestly this winds up being easier than I feared it might be, items are banned and it's very long but there are ways of healing. Ignis's Regroup, Healcast spells, and a piece of equipment on Ignis where he sometimes tosses an Elixir Noct's way, these are all valuable tools which still work. And at this point I'm pretty dang good at warp skipping through the small rooms so we cut out plenty of fights (including like 6 in a row after the last campfire!). Prompto's Piercer is always a reliable quick breather, and I have three Ribbons on hand at this point (sorry Glad!). I stick to the regular Armiger instead of the fancy one here, and I don't use the Magitek invincibility suits as that feels like cheating.

The hardest fight is probably Jorgamund about halfway through, it wipes us once so I next time we just play it more carefully (and very liberally with the Healcast Thundagas). 4 Iron Giants at once is pretty rough too, and I am terrified of Coeurls in this game. But we get through the whole thing with just one fail. The boss Bifrost is basically just a tougher Jorgamund, but there's no reason to hold anything back here and we take it down without too much trouble.

So that's that! Not much of a reward at the end of it, materially or lorewise, but I think that's every quest done now. There's nothing left to stop me from finally playing Episode Ardyn!

Episode Ardyn done! I know some of you haven't played it yet so I'll try to be coy with plot stuff.

This is, unsurprisingly, a lot of fun! Every DLC after Gladio's has been very good. This one's pretty much split into two halves, the first part is (welcome) exposition and the main part is structured much like Ignis's DLC. Ardyn is even more OP to play as than Ignis was (which makes sense this time), and zipping around Insomnia carving through enemies (and buying hats!!!) is great. Cactuar traffic lights are 10/10.

There's quite a lot of background lore in this one, I like viewing the exhibits at the lab. There's still some boring and underexplained stuff- Ardyn's backstory is pretty cliche, right down to another dead blonde love interest named Fleuret, and there's an entirely meaningless and consequence-free choice at the end which is especially a letdown after the choice in Ignis's DLC creates a whole new timeline. Also what even happens to Insomnia after the end >_> Ardyn and the Empire just leave? I may have missed something there.

The boss fights are great (especially young Regis), they really upped their game in the DLCs on that front after that weak final boss in the maingame. Ifrit is pretty depowered for a god, but it's very fun to summon him like this and now I wish the regular game summons had them be more active and under player command.

One of the best and worst parts of the episode is the major scene at the end with Bahamut. It really, really feels to me like it's continuing to set up Bahamut/the Astrals as the true final villain of the game, but knowing that this is the last DLC kinda leaves a bitter taste here. Seriously, 'everything is pre-ordained by the gods, you can't fight your own fate', that's what we're ending things on?! We should be taking it to these guys! Bah. Maybe I'll read that book, but I'm sad they didn't get to finish the interesting story they've been building up with Ignis and Ardyn's episodes.

Still, I'm glad I played this episode. The dev teams seemed to hit their groove in these DLCs (OK maybe not with the writing all the time but the gameplay is great fun!). Also the overworld rap music is the kind of bold ridiculousness that was perfectly suited for this. Final boss music was also really neat, I wonder when they realised they were gonna remix Somnus into a boss theme at some point.

So, uh, I think that's it! I probably won't bother going back to Comrades, I wasn't having much fun and it doesn't seem like there's a real plot there. Might read that novel though, as I have plenty of questions. Who were the other DLC episodes gonna be btw? And is there anything else of note that I should know, or that I missed?

In any case, this was an entertaining, if bizarre, game. I had a blast playing it, but the development issues are so blindingly obvious even with all the post-release patches. I wonder what could've been if they'd had more time or money or whatever the problem was. Not sure what happened there actually, wasn't this in development for ages? I guess at some point the longer the process goes on the more problems there must be. Regardless, I'm glad I played this fun flawed game and experienced this world. Thanks for joining everyone!

Oh wow, I somehow missed that the novel came out already in English, I'll have to pick up a copy sometime too.

Noctis, Aranea, and Lunafreya. I think they took the story beats and turned them into the book.

Pretty much my exact sentiment. I actually really enjoyed FFXV and find myself wanting to go back into that world every once and a while (which is why I played the Pocket Edition!) so it feels so bleh just thinking about what it could've been.

Aranea is truly best girl.

Did you do the post-DLC bonus fight? I remember you mulling what it could be earlier and I didn't know it existed until I youtubed it the other day - seems interesting.

I still invite you to do what I did, not buy/read the book and just read the plot summary... though maybe the book is still better, but yeah. The book covers the last 4 DLC, Ardyn and the 3 cancelled ones: Aranea, Lunafreya, Noctis.

(literally full spoilers on everything if you go this route) https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XV_-The_Dawn_of_the_Future-

Could've been interesting!

Now I am intrigued what's next... Revenant Wings, TAY and FF2 are the ones remaining I've never played. If you dive into the Compilation of VII you should technically do DoC first, then CC. Or just dive right into 7R imo. Pixel remasters are fresh opportunities, but Lightning Returns too, gotta finish that trilogy!

I just ordered the book, had some promotions going on so figured might as well.

LR or VIIR are my votes for which ones you should do next.

Hm I'll think about whether to read the book or just the summary.

Oh yeah I did the bonus fight! It was pretty easy for once (the Ignis v Noctis one took me so long), lol at us finally getting a 4 Bros v Ardyn fight and we're on Ardyn's side for it >_>.

Not certain what I'll do next but Lightning Returns is the easiest to get (and Martin has piqued my interest with those cool songs in FFMC) so it's most likely gonna be that. Can't do 7R until it gets ported somewhere unfortunately :( I just put it on the list in hope. We'll see though!

Oh yeah, it was mentioned earlier that the Pocket Edition is actually pretty decent, I wonder what that's like. The world really is nice, it's such a shame about all the game's shortcomings. We can hope that XVI takes the best of XV and expands on it but it looks like it's going to head in the opposite direction... have to wait and see I guess.

And Noctis was one of the DLCs? Weird, though it does make some sense. I wonder how Luna would've played.

My secret theory after the Gentiana reveal was that Ardyn was actually Ifrit, still consumed by hatred for mankind. I was way off!

I wanted to wait until after you played Episode Ardyn to comment on this, but you weren't as far off as you thought.

Oh I didn't even think about that, you're right! With him taking Ifrit's memories and all...

Those who haven't heard the rap should take a listen, it's every bit as wild as Crazy Chocobo:

Also the final boss theme is cool (spoilery title)

Just an update on what's next, I might not be doing Lightning Returns very soon after all. XIII-2 just got put on Game Pass and apparently they've upgraded it quite a bit, so I might wait a few months and see if they do the same with LR >_>
