It was a case of mistaken identity when a "tipster" called 5-0 who then tipped off the FBI that Laundrie was at their location The man was identified as Severin Beckwith, who was with Anna Brettmann that were at a lodge on the Apalachian Trail when U.S Marshalls BUST open the door and ordering them to put their hands. Severin said "Next thing i see is a bunch of guys with riot shields with U.S Marshalls writte on them and handguns were pointed at my face." He was still in his UNDERWEAR at this point since it happened at night time. The New York couple had been camping and hiking the trail since late September but due to several days of heavy rain and poor sleep they checked into the Lodge at Fontana Village Resort and booked the room with a credit card linked to a NY ID. Beckwith said "Which, i guess was a good enough motive to come in" noting Petito was from NY Graham County Sheriff, Jerry Crisp said his dept received calls from several tipsters claiming they saw Laundrie at this location and pinpointed to the couple and sent a photo of Beckwith to them which they believed looked a lot like him. They then got in contact with the FBI and said "we're on our way" feeling confident it was him. The sheriff said the Marshalls then surrounded the area and yelled for Laundrie's name at which Beckwith responded but didn't come to the door so they had to force their way in and got him in handcuffs while still in his underwear. They questioned him and examined his hands in search of Laundrie's tattoos and took prints which confirmed it was NOT him since he didn't have any tats. Beckwith said the agents touched the side of his head claiming he had a "notch in the upper part of his inner hear like Laundrie" The Marshalls presented the tipsters photo to Beckwith and did a side by side thinking it was him and said "It was brian" Beckwith was surprised by the "resemblance" but said someone in the room told him to CHANGE his resemblance or shave his beard UNTIL the suspect is caught He was later releasd got a "free night's stay" for his troubles The Fontana Village Resort declined to comment to dailymail on the incident. Beckwith DID end up shaving his beard after that and regretted having the same hairchin as Laundrie Do you think he looks like him? I wouldn't say it's "uncanny", but there's enough resemblance to at least question him.
