I get the joke, but honestly I find it more shitty than funny. Maybe it just hits too close to home as someone who was a quiet kid in high school lol

I was quiet around anybody who wasn't my friend already.

I had a classmate approach me once during baseball in gym. Our team was at bat so most of us were just standing around waiting.

He came over to where I was sitting, sat next to me, looked me in the eye, and said: "Hey, you're a cool guy. I just want you to know that."

I had just been sitting watching the hilarious attempts at batting, so he caught me off guard. Perplexed, I turned to him. "Thanks, dude, but what made you say that?"

He shrugged. "I dunno, you just kinda seem like you might shoot up the school and I wanted to cover my bases."

I laughed. He laughed. We never spoke again.

It's incredibly shitty and constantly being the target of those "jokes", especially in high school, made me feel like utter shit, and one of the things that contributed to me wanting to drop out

I just don't get what saying things like "just remember that I was never mean to you!" is supposed to accomplish other than make me think that people ACTUALLY think I would do anything violent

Yeah. Socially maladjusted kids tend to be quiet. Not saying every shy kid is a sociopathic killer, but you don't really see outgoing high school quarterbacks shooting up schools

Potentially could be a self fulfilling prophecy as well. You're calling someone bottom of the bucket of society until they feel like proving everyone right. Then everyone feels justified in being right and take no responsibility in creating that type of frustration and outburst in someone

If I had a darker sense of humor back then, I probably would have quoted the movie commando: "You're a funny guy, I like you, that's why I'm going to kill you last."

But yeah, if someone was going to do it, then constantly making fun of them would be a surefire way to make them remember you for the wrong reason.

Someone in school made a quiet ones joke about me. He was obviosly joking, but it still kinda hurt a bit. I gave him the above lines.

one of the quiet kids in my old high school was on Facebook posting all sorts of White supremacy stuff. many of the people who were down with him at at first and mutually hate BLM distanced themselves from him lmao.
