Are you fucking kidding me with this shit?

So I've got like ~two weeks to do the castle. Understood. I spend a lot of time growing stuff, doing work, etc etc.

I have a few days left. I decide to go into the castle a few days early because it might take a while. Two days left I think.

Well I don't realize how much of a fucking slog a single castle is, so eventually I just hit a point a little over halfway where I have to back out because I'm out of literally all SP/HP items and zero SP as well.

Costs me a day. Go back in with one day left, all should be fine. Stocked up with enough items and shit to make it to the end.

So I get to the literal final treasure room and there's this floaty thing. Oh that's the treasure. Except, wait a moment, fuck you, you have to leave for no discernable reason in order to just, what, deliver a card to Kamoshida and then go right back into the fucking final room?

Well guess what? Getting forced out costs me the final day, so as soon as I wake up, cops show up and it's game over.

Forced me out for no fucking reason whatsoever, so now I only have the option to go back one week in game time, re-do everything I did in the real world, AND redo everything I did in the dungeon, which clearly is designed to take multiple days (when, really, it should only take two days if you can do it right, which I did, only for the game to decide for it to cost an extra day when you're literally at the fucking end).

What a joke. This was literal IRL hours of progress gone on a stupid technicality. Should I have not cut it so close? Arguably, yeah. But I made it to the final room of the castle with a day to spare, so as far as I'm concerned, the game just decided to bullshit me for no reason.

Another bullshit I'd offer up is the fact that I get arrested like, what, first thing in the morning? The board meeting was supposed to take place that day, sure, but how come I can't at least get a partial day to jump back in and complete the dungeon before the actual meeting happens? Hell, why not even during the meeting? Kamoshida could stand up and be like "i'm going to share something groundbreaking" (joker steals treasure) "I'm a scumbag and I should go to jail."

The game is really fun but this is pissing me off to no end right now. The one thing I hate most about video games is re-doing what I've already done. I literally didn't finish Bravely Default because they were like "Hey, you know all those bosses you just fought? Go do it again."

What a joke.

I think theres dialogue stating dont leave it to the last second, give yourself a few days to infiltrate the palace as well.

The first dungeon always takes longer than a day to complete. That said, not doing it straight away is all on you TC

If it makes you feel any better, the SP Adhesive accessories you can buy after ranking up the Death confidant will make it super easy to clear later dungeons in one day.

I always finished the initial dungeon clear in 1 day, it always gave me much more time for social links, even though Persona 3 was literal pain on that front.

I mean yeah they are pretty costly at first, but even just buying one and passing it around the party as needed can make a big difference on its own. That's how I cleared the third palace in OG version anyway.

• Keep multiple save files
• Honestly just go on the easiest difficulty and skip any cutscenes until you catch up
• Remember what you were doing in the social aspect
• ALWAYS do a palace as soon as it opens. It'll just wait until the deadline, that way you can just relax and not worry about the RPG side of things

just lost another ~40 minutes because I couldn't get back to a safe room without triggering every fucking enemy in the area while running around on zero SP with zero items remaining because two level three enemies decided to spike joker

fuck this shit so much. seriously this game has so much going well for it but now it's all fucking gone because of just bad luck bullshit

I was at the rooftop but had to backtrack to the chapel to get back to the safe room and warp out for the day to restock, but my guy decided to jump down into the flat middle of the chapel area around four red dots, and the fucking camera controls suck and the character gets stuck by even brushing up against an obstacle

No and that's the infuriating part. I'm just on normal. But every hit does ~40% of a character's max HP, and god forbid it's a crit or a weakness. The battles are easy when I have SP, but I run out so quickly and I can't keep leaving to restock due to the day limitation.

Part of this is self-inflicted because I keep running out of SP items, but I can't even find where to find some to restock aside from hitting every single vending machine, plus leblanc's coffee works but you can only make it once per night, and now that I'm going back to the metaverse every day, I can't even take the opportunity to make coffee because you can only make it in the evening.

Yeah, it's ridiculous that they have a big sign in the top left going "x days until y" and in-reality you need to complete it several days before y happens. I'm pretty sure the gap between when you have to complete it, and when y happens varies depending on the dungeon as well.

You have to learn to conserve sp and maximize efficiency with weakness usage.

I usually manage to clear the first run in 1 full sp refill.

Yeah in my second runthrough I'm getting better at this. Like if the encounter is two enemies, I'll spike the first one with three basic attacks, then only need one SP-using move to hit the weakness of the second one to force a hold-up.

Previously I was just going SP --> SP --> SP when it wasn't necessary

Phew. Made it through. Had a little scare that I left myself one day short because of how much time the calling card took.

4/29 - At the treasure but have to leave to deliver calling card. Forced out, end of day.
4/30 - The team for some wack reason says hey we need a whole day to figure out what to write. Nothing more can be done, day is wasted by just deciding who is going to write it and deliver it.
5/1 - Card is delivered.

Thank GOD it let me go in on 5/1, same day as the card's delivery. It was shaping up to be a "you need to wait another day after the card is delivered before you can get the treasure!" situation and so I was freaking out hard because the deadline is 5/2.

Lesson learned. Glad to be past this sour feeling and ready to move on. It really is a fun game aside from this nightmare.

Minor complaint, there are way too many points in the game where Joker can move around, but can't do anything other than go to bed. It's kinda annoying, I wish it would just send me to bed.

Like for example, I just finished the buffet and got teleported back to my room. I can move around, but I can't train, craft anything, or leave. Just go to bed.

Why not just send me straight to bed?

And then I get into bed and it asks you "Sleep?" or "don't sleep yet" implying there might actually be something you can do if you decide not to sleep yet.

Ill admit the first dungeon was rough and your initial post in the topic is BS game design, but the first dungeon was not THIS rough.

do the dungeon as quickly as possible. go through it in a single run through if possible. some dungoens you need to unlock something so they take an extra day. but its best to get through them immediately so you can focus on the social aspect of the game
same with persona 4 where you want to get through the dungeon in 1 sitting

Later on it's super obvious how it works because you've already done it before.

I looked up how it worked on my first one. Basically you should go ahead and do the palace ASAP and then chill for the rest of the remaining time.

I always did the palaces right away (if only to stop Ryuji texting me about it every day).

This did lead to some unintentional comedy when a character ended up napping for a few weeks straight though.

Also I'm wondering - there are a shit ton of dialogue items where you have a response. This stuff affects the characters' affection traits or whatever, right?

Like in a text chain for example, Ann asks some question and my response options are "something wrong?" or "what do you mean?"

Both accomplish the same thing from a dialogue perspective, but are these options affecting anything else?

Usually some options will raise affinity. If you get musical notes, that's helping your relationship. At least that's how it is in Royal.

That's not the case for every dialogue, but for the great majority of the hangouts there are affinity raising choices.

I hit burnout halfway through that palace. I really want to go back and finish the game but it's soo long. After a couple years, I decided that Royal would be decent purchase since at this point, I barely remember what is going on so it's worth to restart. I beat the first dungeon in Royal and then stopped playing in favor of beating shorter games first to clear out my backlog faster. >_> Bad move lol. If they ever do a PC port though, I'll definitely buy Royal again. I'm much more likely to finish games on my PC.
