I remember feeling let down when the game has you bring all the gods together to smooth things over with a feast and then that all just happens offscreen but I'd say that's the only gripe I have. Hades has very good writing

Like every critic, indie game fans and their metric for scoring an indie game. Oh gee wee, this game is pretty fun to play, that and it is made on a shoestring budget, lets give this 7/10 game a 10.

It's simple but because of the nature of the game, it drags itself so much and they usually talk about the same thing they talked about before but just add a bit of new content each time

I am not really sure if it counts as "story" - but I liked how characters always respond to specific things. Like bringing a certain weapon, or a Pact of Punishment, or a keepsake (i.e using Bouldy against a Fury). If it doesn't count I would give it a 5

I feel a bit conflicted because I like how deliberate the link between the "roguelike" gameplay and Zagreus' seemingly-impossible quest to escape from the underworld is, but having to grind out so many runs to get the corresponding dialog/story advancement got tiring fast for me and I ultimately didn't get very far.

The Achilles and Patroclus story is the worst
Each time you talk to one of them about their relationship it's always *short new info* and then "Let's not talk about this anymore" or "leave me be"
And then you have to run back to Elysium, have like 30% chance to see Patroclus room, get a bit more "oh, he said that? thanks. Leave me" and by the point you are finally done with both of them, you already finished pretty much everything else in the game (assuming you don't go for a perfect save file of course) and tired of playing it

I'm just bringing some balance. I truly do think it is a 6/10 story and a 9.5/10 gameplay game and an 8/10 if I had to rate the overall package.

I remember in certain topics where people were rating 10s to counteract 1s so I think this is fair game.

It doesn't need "balance." It just needs honest rankings whether you agree with them or not.

The only time I can think of in this topic series where something like that happened is when SephG tried giving 1s to all the VNs, and those scores were obviously thrown out.

Hmm...on average, maybe. It's probably true that the general public will have more access to a very popular cheap game that get passed around by a word of mouth
But there are some indie games that are praised by critics and veteran gamers alike. We are talking about people with 30+ years of gaming experiences.
I played plenty of AAA games myself and I can say that there are many indie games that are much better than some AAA games
Having a high budget doesn't guarantee a fun game. And the opposite is true too

Major "what the hell did I just play" vibes and the thing as a whole doesn't quite feel "good" but it's got neat ideas and themes and I respect the ambition. Would take this over an overly bland game.

Yeah I wont count ratings not made honestly.

Also the target demographic for most indie games will be richer, as it is people who buy more games on average. That is a wild take. The prices are lower because the budget is lower not the income of the target audience.

Anyway, 9.5. It is excellent in all fields, though it is not quite at the very highest level though it is close to it.

To the last post, I'd rather be upfront about my intentions than bombing a game with 1s scores with zero explanation.

Anyway I apologize to TC for derailing the topic. You have your best judgment to do whatever with my score. Keep the initial 6 or strike it off completely if you want as well. I will just say that I'm qualified enough to feel strongly about the game's story after beating it the required 10 times to get the true 'ending'. Story is a bit shallow but overall the presentation and dialogue is entertaining. A 10/10 story though? Hahaha. You have to have very low standards to call it one.

I feel I'd appreciate the story more if I stopped playing fairly quickly after the credits. The post-credits aftermath story is just significantly weaker; and too much of my game time was spent in that state that it is souring my opinion of the story as a whole.

I love the game and the characters are both entertaining and well written, but the plot feels more like flavour than the main focus, and I have no strong feelings towards most of it. Or in the case of some plotlines, complete apathy.
