I've been learning video editing and some crap I whipped up in an afternoon has been getting tons (thousands) of views so I figured why not try to double down and get into something new?

I'm decent enough with Photoshop to make thumbnails that pop out and I've been told by most people I've met that I have a great voice for things like narration. Despite being broke as shit I forgot I had a bunch of Target gift credit from this old person at my last job and bought a mic with it. Should be interesting to see where it goes.

The reason not is because the algorithm is now designed to bury your content as efficiently as possible and to only promote things that are already popular.

But have fun.

I personally am a content creator. recently hit 1000 subscribers. When I first started doing it, I didn't really know what I wanted to make videos about. I just wanted to do something gaming related, but I slowly transitioned into a certain role because my audience wanted that. Originally I was doing game reviews, but my videos started to become more educational and my audience was really enjoying those ones. So there, I found a niche. Not completely original, but it's still a niche. If you're not sure what to make videos about yet, just make a few videos about something you like.

Try not to look at the glass half empty. Remember that even just one comment on your video, means that someone took time out of their day to watch your video. If your video gets 80 views, that means 80 people literally watched your video. Imagine 80 people at a house party, that would be one of the most Kick-Ass parties ever. Going back to that one comment. Maybe that particular person likes certain type of videos. Listening to your audience will only make your channel grow even more.

You ever found clickbait thumbnails, fake personalities and people asking the audience to subscribe kind of annoying? Well, if you want to be successful, chances are you're going to have to do those things. Although they're annoying, they work. At the end of the day, people can talk about how frustrated they are that people resort to cheap tricks to make their videos popular, but it doesn't matter. They work.

The one important thing, advertising your YouTube to family and friends isn't a bad option. It gets the word out there, but from my experiences it doesn't get you very far. I very rarely show my videos to my family and friends. Most of my friends are not huge gamers, and I know that showing my videos to them will either make them feel obligated to watch it (and most likely not enjoy it) or ignore the video. This will probably apply to 90% of people with YouTube accounts. My way of advertising is if I just putting it on YouTube, and making sure my video has the right thumbnail, talks about a trending topic (in most cases, etc. I know there are retro gamers out there who are nerdy like I am, I just got to find them. And I think YouTube has tons of them.

Anyway, I only have a thousand subscribers. it's not like I have a million subscribers or anything. Take this as a grain of salt lol.

On second thought, this shit isn't for me lmao. There's nothing I'm passionate about to make videos for, and I'm so anxious and paranoid I don't like the idea of having any type of following in any form. My hypothetical content would be too eclectic and I'd probably find the people that watch my content annoying.

The video I put out has a shitload of comments and likes but 99% of them are just from ADHD zoomers skipping around the video.

I made a YouTube video yesterday, and it got 4 views.

So I guess you could say I've officially arrived on the scene.

This is super helpful, thank you!

I want to start a channel too, mostly about statistics. I love love LOVE stats and I'm currently a student, and I feel like making a channel going in depth on misleading viral or news statistics would be a lot of fun. Researching the study it's based on and giving context on those numbers is something I'd love to base a youtube channel on tbh

I already have a few unlisted videos where I attempt to do this lol. I need a lot more practice with video editing though, as the style of video I want would have a lot of custom graphics (bar graphs, pie charts, panning over the pages and highlighting/zooming in on sections in the study, etc etc)
