Well that's the obvious top but it's a dead language that no one speaks anymore so shouldn't be considered.

Spanish is almost as important to know as English in the US.

I'm going to the flea market today to get some authentic Mexican tacos. That place is bumping on the weekends with nothing but Mexicans and most of them don't speak English. I'm gonna go talk shit to them with the little Spanish I know and drink some cervezas.

It really isnt. Its an important language, and knowing it can do a lot for you in the US. But knowing English opens up so many more doors and possibilities.

Where I work there are a ton of Latinos. From all over central and south America. They come to me for things and most can speak just enough English to get by, but knowing some Spanish helps me deal with them.

This trend isn't going anywhere. I don't think we should be forced to learn Spanish but why not do it at this point

I think the answer is a language known by enough people to not be in danger of going extinct (where it'd be important to learn for preservation purposes) but still known by so few it'll almost never come up in your daily life.

Welsh seems like a good candidate.

Klingon

Then again, it might come in handy.

Probably Frisian because its very similar to English. So why?

But as PP said, no language is useless. Its the PROCESS of learning a new language that is especially useful, whether you learn to speak the language or not.

This thread has nothing to do with how important it is to know English. That's as obvious as Latin being a dead language.

Bull, you get far more value from Latin than welsh.

There are so many Latin roots in so many languages, it doesnt only help with multiple languages it greatly increases your understanding of your own (assuming English here).

At least if you have any interest in that kind of thing. If this is only for buying stuff at the convenience store or whatever...

Depends where you are in Wales, to be fair.

The bits that I spend the most time in, the vast majority of people speak Welsh. However, if you go into the major cities, the language only exists on road signs.

In 99% of the US you can get by with just knowing English save for some random niche things. Sure it may help is some very heavy Hispanic areas, but most of them will speak some English.
