If the gimmick is it being an EV, why not get a Nissan Leaf or something?

I'm assuming people buy Teslas for the autopilot.

Why would I want to buy a Nissan Leaf instead of a Tesla Model 3? Do you know a single girl who finds a Nissan Leaf impressive?

The technology suite in Teslas is second to none. Autopilot is the most well-known feature, but there's so much more than that.

Because when the model 3 first launched, it was only $35,000. The comparable Nissan Leaf Plus S started at $37,445 and needed a few thousand more to add features that were standard in the Model 3 (like heated seats).

Of course now it's not as appealing, with the Model 3 being $43,990. But the difference is still small enough that people will likely opt for Teslas.

Uhh, yep. There isn't really another production EV that competes with the overall technology suite of a Tesla. There are cars that may do something better than Tesla here and there, but Teslas are the best overall.
  • Autopilot is the best driver assist feature available.
  • Free over-the-air software updates for the life of the car. The car gets better over time as more features are added. They even have the capability to make cars more efficient if they figure out some tweak or a better way for the car to use the battery. My car originally had 373 miles of range. It now has about 404 miles of range on a full charge due to efficiency upgrades. They also add more video streaming options and games as time goes on. They recently added Disney+.
  • Location-aware homelink.
  • Smart Summon
  • Netflix/Youtube/Disney+/Hulu/Twitch for video streaming
  • Google Maps API for navigation
  • Best charging infrastructure of any EV
  • You can plug in an Xbox controller to play some of the games instead of using the touch screen
  • You can also control a lot of features in the car right from the app. Climate controls, lock/unlock, charging controls (set charging limit, schedule charging, etc)
  • Sentry mode and Teslacam are amazing. The system uses 6 of the 8 cameras around the car to record video at all times. Having video of anything that happens to the car saves you a ton of hassle. There's a severely reduced chance of someone who does a hit and run actually getting away because the cameras are recording all the time. They're also rolling out a feature right now so that you can view sentry mode video from the app in real time.

I'd say Tesla's weakest points are service and logistics. They're adding more and more certified body shops for collision repair, but they can do better. Also, it takes them longer than it should to get necessary replacement parts shipped.

Eh, I'll give you it for the Model 3 since it doesn't really have a rival yet, but the Model S is starting to lag behind the new competition. The Taycan shits all over it in so many ways.

Tesla has better range and infotainment, but the Taycan interior is a palace compared to anything Tesla.
Porsche also has a better dealer network then Tesla's weird cel phone store sized showrooms, and sketchy shit with self repairs. Taycan is also way better looking (I think even the biggest Tesla fanboy would agree on that one), and starts cheaper then the base Model S does.

Same platform but yeah. The GT is disgusting. As a TTS owner, it's the first time I've been jealous of another Audi that didn't have "RS" in the name.

Cable is literally an unpaid Tesla shill so good luck with discoures. and yes, the Taycan shits all over the Model S. I think the biggest factor in favor of Porsche and others is that you don't have to be as much of a mindless internet dickhead and demand justification from everyone for not agreeing with your favorite choice. But when someone on this board mentions Tesla.....well you see.

This is purely opinion, and I think the Model S looks better than any of the others. I don't really like how the Model 3, Y, or X look, but the Model S looks better than the Taycan in my opinion.

Uhh, nope. I'm honest about Tesla's flaws. The Model S is my dream car and I intentionally chose it because it's the best piece of technology I've ever seen, imo. And I literally just agreed with some of electribugs2's points, so you're being pretty disingenuous in calling me an "unpaid Tesla shill."

I have a Tesla Model S, but it's not like I'm claiming Tesla is infallible in any way. Nor have I ever done that.

They're way behind other luxury competition. It's a shame because the infotainment is so cool, but the seats are not it. My old co worker bought a Model 3 Performance which is about the same price as my TT, and even he would admit the TT seats were way nicer. And considering that's a sedan VS a sport coupe, that's unacceptable for the cost.

I went to the Tesla showroom in Vancouver and couldn't believe how strange the setup was. Not even a show car to look at or sit in. Very tiny too for a city with 2.5 million goobers running around.

Fair enough. The model S just looks like a sedan to me, but to it's credit I still always notice them. The Taycan to me looks like a 911 from the future which is just too amazing IMO.

Yeah, with interior comfort and design, Tesla is absolutely not leading the charge.

Yeah, it's a weird thing for sure. The showrooms I've visited have had cars to sit in every time, but one of the ones in Austin is in a shopping center, If you want to test drive one, you have to walk over to the parking garage that's across the way and behind stores on the opposite side of the small street. It's maybe about a 3 minute walk at that location, so not too bad, but it's definitely not your typical dealership.

Also, I once went in and was sitting in a Model S they had on display. They ended up telling me to get out because someone had just bought that one, lol. I had seen plenty of it, but I thought that was a weird interaction.

I'd say a big weak point of other BEVs is the reliance on 3rd party charging stations. With Teslas, you have a proprietary charging network and you can use 3rd party chargers if you need to. Electrify America's charging network has some pretty notable reliability issues, so you can end up going to a charging station where none of the chargers work relatively frequently.

If you're on a long trip, Teslas will tell you which charging stations you need to charge at along the way. Also, no need to put in a credit card. You just plug your car in and do whatever, whether you want to shop/eat or just sit in the car and watch movies or play games. They also added a feature last year that tells you how many charging stations are available at each supercharger station right on the display.

Anyone have any thoughts on Lucid Motors? They've got cars with 500+ miles of range, which is impressive. Hopefully they succeed and push other EV manufacturers to push their range up above 500 miles as well.

The only thing I don't really like about the exterior of the Lucid air is the top part being a different color than the bottom on some models.

Hoodrats do. Most women I've been with have money and have driven BMW's, Mercedes or better since they were like 17. Sure, they love heated seats but most women who know what money is prefer your bank accout to have money in it, and prefer to be able to take vacations. Any struggling $40K earner can break his bank on a used BMW since it costs 30% of the new price after three years. Not sure how far such a guy will get not being able to both take a girl out and change his tires in the same month, lol.
