PM Stefan Lfven, October 2014 to today, is meeting the Speaker of Riksdagen to hand in his resignation. Lfven stepped down as party leader of the Socialdemocrats last week and the party chose Magdalena Andersson, Minister of Finance, as new leader. Lfven is resigning of his own will, he is retiring.

The election of a new PM is now in the hands of the Speaker and Riksdagen. The Speaker will present a candidate to Riksdagen after talking with all party leaders. Riksdagen then vote and the candidate cannot have a majority against him/her. A vote might happen as early as Friday. Magdalena is expected to be the first candidate since the SocDems currently hold the PM-seat.

The Green Party and the Neoliberal Center Party have announced they will support Magdalena in a vote. Now it is up to the Far-Left and an independent MP.

The Conservatives, Nationalists, Christian Democrats and Liberals are expected to vote no.

If Magdalena is voted down then the Speaker will most likely present the Conservative leader as the next candidate.

This means that Lfven and his cabinet now are a Transition Government until Riksdagen elect a new PM. TGs are mainly administrative entities but can act if there is a crisis. Otherwise they mainly keep things running, oversee ongoing operations, implement already passed bills.

The leaders of our 8 major parties had 20 minutes each with the Speaker today.

Magdalena Andersson said that she wanna lead Swedens next Government.

Conservative leader Ulf Kristersson said that there is no way to the Prime-ministership for him with the current distribution of seats.

The Nationalists, Christian Democrats and Liberals said that they will vote no to Magda.

The Greens and the Neoliberals said they will support Magda (well, the Neolibs will vote Yellow).

The Far-Left said they wanna support Magda but expect certain policy agreements first with pensions and healthcare being core priorities.
