I can understand that mentality a bit. I've got a friend who can't play games without some kind of progression system anymore. He KNOWS he's missing out on fun games, and he KNOWS he's being manipulated through a slow and steady reward-based dopamine drip like some kind of rate in a skinner box, but from his perspective a game that's "just fun" isn't rewarding enough anymore. I imagine streaming is a lot like that.

I can sort of understand. I'm in the legal field and I can't really read for pleasure anymore because a good chunk of my work is reading and writing.

I mean I watch his streams and he's honestly a chill and cool guy. I especially like watching his streams when his other 3 friends are on because they have good chemistry with each other. He does have some hot takes when it comes to his fighting game opinions, but for the most part he's one of the more "wholesome" streamers I know. And some of the fun he has was when he can see chat's reaction.

Meanwhile, I'm collecting and playing games from two generations ago.

I think he is overthinking it. Anyone that plays games or does any one activity for extended periods of time is going to eventually not enjoy it as much...especially if you aren't getting paid to do it.

If he was reading for content 12 hours a day of course he isn't going to do much reading on his off time.

Honestly it sounds like gaming is his job so he doesnt enjoy it by himself not getting paid.

Yes, but he's said in the past that the money aspect isn't what's important to him. He would've quit streaming if he didn't actually enjoy it and have fun with it.

That's not even remotely what he said. He outright said he still loves playing games, but not playing them alone without friends or an audience because he prefers it to be a social hobby. It's just that streaming with viewers has accentuated that

Hes literally just sorta getting some feelings off his chest about a realization he made about himself. He doesnt quite understand why he has a hard time starting games without a stream, since he knows he will still likely have fun with the game once he starts it. He doesnt particularly like this discovery about himself, and he was just sharing it with his community.

And with my zero medical knowledge, Im guessing he gets something akin to a dopamine rush when streaming, and that same boost just isnt there (or to the same level) when gaming solo these days.

I really dont get all of the anger coming from some people in this topic, with the He makes money doing this, fuck him take. Hes just a dude sharing his feelings, and some insight to his personal experiences.
