Yes, people not taking time to engage with a clearly disingenuous troll is definitely why anti-vaxx people are anti-vaxx.

This. I think folks should get vaxxed for sure.

The point I'm making has to do with people response to Feline here.

In any subject, when someone is trying to gain knowledge about a topic they're undecided or uninformed about and one side comes at them screaming their opinions, REGARDLESS of how correct they are, the response from the person seeking knowledge usually isn't going to be to fall right into line with that person shouting at them.

My point is that over the entire vaccine discussion worldwide if people chose to educate and inform about vaccines in a more polite/respectful manner I think we'd have seen less push back from folks
It's fucked up that we ever treated it as a discussion with bunches of equally valid opinions in the first place. Present-day discourse is the result of not challenging lies and incorrect beliefs hard enough.

this is the issue educate people. Dont see it as some sort of fight needing to be challenge. If you just name call people you disagree with they are less likely to want to side with you and push them further away from the truth.

Nope not what I said.

A lot of the anti-vaxx crowd is Republican. On average, Republicans are generally less educated. As someone who came from a highly uneducated area if there is anything people hate is condescension. Don't treat them like they are dumb, if you do you lost them already, no matter what you're discussing with them.

From day 1 of vaccine rollout I've seen vaccine advocates talking down to people who are hesitant. All this does is cause them to dig their heels in harder.

When engaging with people the way you present your message is nearly as important as the message your presenting. I think as a whole that mark has been missed here and in many other areas of politics today

@hockeybub89

Definitely. My big point here that I made at end of my last point is we should seek to educate people in a manner that doesn't cause more polarization.

100000% challenge lies and incorrect beliefs but I believe the manner in which it is done is extremely important. If I had the answer for how to better educate the whole Qanon or anti-vaxx population, I wouldn't be here posting about it I'd be out working on it.

I think that is the question we need to answer, how can we overcome the variety of education/cultural backgrounds/polarization to educate people about risks like covid rn but also whatever else the future throws at us

Better to believe in facts than to be nice. If I idiots have the self-awareness to deliberately ignore the truth out of spite, then they have the ability to choose to be correct too. It is on them to change or get left in the dust and dragged along to progress.

Hmm, well... if Covid has a 1% chance of killing a child, and the vaccine reduces that to 0,02% but at the 0,0004% chance of causing an adverse reaction, it hink taking the vaccine is the less risky option.
