some people say they do but I dont believe it.

I never had a job that I left that tried to keep me. As a result I am a firm believer of the fact that employers dont care about their employees for the most part.

I doubt most employers see you as anything more than a random name on a spreadsheet.

If they care about you they aren't going to keep you from progressing your career

Depends what you mean?

Care about you personally? As an individual? Fuck no.

Care about the inconvenience of losing a good worker (assuming you are one)? Yes.

No they don't. Also they usually expect crazy stuff.

For example, I just asked for the company card so I could buy some telephone wire, light bulbs and wire twists. I was told there was no money on the card. But go ahead and buy what I needed and I'd be reimbursed. I said absolutely no way. The company needs the stuff so why should I tie up my cash flow because they can't budget?

Ok imagine im a hammer at my job. If my employer has literally no other hammer then he cares a lot about me. If they have tons of hammers then they dont give a fuck about me.

Yea we're fighting p hard to keep someone on my team who's leaving

Doubt we'll succeed (cant salary match) but theres an honest effort

Personally, as her manager, i am simultaneously sad to lose her but thrilled she found a better opportunity. I told her as much.

Pro tip: managers are humans capable of empathy just like you. It takes a special kind of arrogance to think otherwise.

They care to the extent where it would be more costly and take more time that it would take to replace you than keep you.

Really depends the managers/bosses. If they treat you with digity and respect and not just a number they usually feel bad when a worker leaves/needs to be fired

No you are replaceable. And then they will hire somebody for less than what you were making.

I will say tho there was one time where i was asked to stay because by me leaving it meant they would be stuck with just the other employee (really lazy, bad attitude). They could match the pay but they couldnt offer a matfhing 401k.
But most times they dont care.

Lol wow yeah no way I'd do that unless it was for something that would make my job easier and I was very confident that I would be reimbursed very quickly. (Within a week).

Depends on the job. I like reimbursements because I'm basically getting free rewards on my credit card.

I had to quit a job once because I needed to finish my PhD full time and they offered to keep me in my job at 75% time with full benefits to allow me to devote more time to school.

Once I finished I told them that now the 75% part time employment wasn't sufficient to cover my bills so they bumped me back to 100% and also gave me a promotion and a raise.

They specifically said they didn't want to lose me and would do what they could in their power to keep me.

Haha you get over yourself

Do you think people suddenly become inhuman as soon as they become managers?
