I'm not here to educate people on the basics of gender and sexuality. You can find plenty of excellent trans perspectives, some which delve into psychology and/or sociology, online. Suffice to say, I'm learning to give up caring about what our transphobic society thinks about me and my body.

But speaking of my body, my GP/endo is great. I asked her what a good goal weight would be, given that I'm 5'11 and becoming a woman, and she says between 170-175. Then she paused and goes, "But <true name>, don't worry too much about it. You're 5'11! That's supermodel height! Lots of women would kill to be as tall as you."

Beats me. We don't even know why there are trans people to begin with, so far as I know. I mean, there are theories, and we know the body and brain develop separately: they're supposed to go the same way, of course, but sometimes they don't. Sometimes the body develops incorrectly, sometimes the body fails to map cleanly to male or female at all! Sometimes parts of it are male and others are female. But, personally, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that male and female are actually way closer together than we often realize.

The books I've read for my Psychology of Addiction class so far are engaging, but probably not something most would pick up for light reading.
The highlights of this past summer's reading were:

-Ursula K. LeGuin's Earth Sea Trilogies. Got a massive hard-cover with all six of them, with forewords and end notes written by her where she talks about writing them and where her ideas came from. Also includes some never-before-published material set in Earthsea, a brief section on the history of Earthsea, stuff like that. It was great. She wrote very beautifully and purposefully.

-Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. It's about a poor, starving student trying to get away with and justifying an unjustifiable crime, and the crazy stuff he suffers through. Also, after having read The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov, I was shocked to encounter a happy ending! He could write those well too.

-I didn't finish it, but Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein's book The Disordered Cosmos was a fascinating read. She talks a lot about physics, what she does, and why she loves physics. Also, she talks about why it's hard being the only black Jewish lady physicist and all the stuff she's put up with and obstacles she's overcome to get where she is today. Really well-written. It's at the top of my list once I finish the semester.

Fair enough, in your opinion, would it have anything to do with how its socially acceptable for tomboys to exist but not femboys? Or is it a completely separate area iyo?

I'm studying to be a social worker, so if there's any field where that will be less of an issue, it would be that. I currently work at Whole Foods, which actually is decent towards LGBTQ+ people. I have a number of gay and lesbian coworkers as well as two gay transmen(they're a couple and they're cute). I actually came out to my assistant department manager Sunday night, and the first thing she asked was if I needed a new name tag with my true name and pronouns. I'm not quite ready to be publicly out yet though, but I wanted to let her know so she could game plan. She's a trustworthy, competent, and all-around good person, and two of my friends who also know her agreed with that assessment(and she smiled ear-to-ear when I told her that).

I haven't read a ton of philosophy, honestly. So I can't say, but something that's stuck with me and helped me through the process of transition is a Confucius quote. "To move a mountain, begin by carrying away small stones." With regards to transition, I'm not going to reach my goals overnight, but little by little. One day, I'll wake up and realize I actually moved the entire damned mountain, but it won't be tomorrow.
And I remember that because it was the tech quote for Mining in Civ IV and Leonard Nimoy's voice is both memorable and the kind of thing you *want* to remember, you know? I really did read the Analects though. Like 15 years ago. I should reread it.

First you must pass a test: acquire a skirt. It's best if you acquire an appropriate top too. Then go look at yourself in the mirror. Then make skirt go spinny!
The first time I did that, I looked like a dude wearing a skirt and a blouse. I looked ridiculous. But I didn't feel ridiculous!

Totally separate. We're hardwired with a gender identity and most of us seek to adhere to it, to "perform" it, if you will. Some of us are mushier and don't/can't conform to societal expectations of our gender, but still identify as that gender. Society's expectations are simply vastly narrower than the true range of expressions.

Real talk: are you going to a therapist? If you feel you need help with possible transness, you should specifically seek out a therapist who services primarily or even exclusively trans clients. It requires a bit of a specialized skill set.
I lucked out with mine: not only does he work only with trans people, hes a trans masc himself! And altogether great.
Of course, if you feel like cutting to the chase, you can always seek out a clinic which serves trans people with an informed consent model. Theyll sit you down with a doctor who will, in excruciating detail, describe everything HRT does and does not do and then let you decide. You can leave with a prescription for a starter dose that same day. Youll feel better/worse pretty much immediately.

Well it sounds better than nothing. But I live in a small rural area hours away from anywhere that I think would have anyone like that. Plus talking about that with anyone irl sounds way too scary.

Plus the being fat thing makes me not want to try yet, ive heard losing weight gets a lot harder.

Plus I don't think I actually have gender dysphoria really. Or maybe idk. I never feel like im depressed about my gender really. I just don't want to be alone and also think lesbians are cute and awesome and make me really jealous of how cute and nice their relationships can be.

Top 5 games?
Ever? Or now? Geez. That's really hard. I'll pick five I really loved, how about? Probably not literally the five best.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall - It just has such a fantastic atmosphere, and I feel like it has the best story of the three, easily. And I kind of feel like your party in Hong Kong(which is great too, BTW) is just a little *too* good for what's supposed to be a bunch of randos. It manages to construct a really compelling mystery and the ending(s) are great. I love that you have multiple decision points with real consequences: what to do with APEX, do you side with Vauclair or manage to talk him down, do you spare Feurschwinge or kill her, what did you prioritize on Glory's mission, basically.

Transistor - The ending is a bit of a bummer, but I love it to bits regardless. Just brilliantly conceived.

Life Is Strange - The game that taught me how I would actually handle the trolley problem and made me sweat through several decisions.
But not the last one! Bae before Bay, sorry not sorry MaxxChloe forever.

Europa Universalis IV - Goddamn do I love this game, even if it's a bit bloated from being continuously added to for almost a decade. Kind of getting to be time to put it in the old regeneration chamber, but I've played it more than probably anything else.

Sonic Mania - Goddamn Sonic Mania is amazing and has all these little touches. Incredible work by the entire team. My favorite bit is probably the little vignette that plays before the Knuckles-exclusive boss of Lava Reef Zone 2.
The Heavy King is stealing the Master Emerald. You see a little cartoon thought bubble pop up from Knuckles, roughly depicting what happened to him in Sonic&Knuckles when Eggman stole it. He grits his teeth, shakes his fist, and settles on a different and ultimately successful method of stopping the heist.

I mean...it sounds like you need to lose weight, and exercise is insanely good for you. It'll even make you feel better mentally. I do think you should see a therapist, and remember: cis dudes don't want to be lesbians. They might wish they could be with a lesbian, but they don't want to be a lesbian. Transition is not just about minimizing gender dysphoria, but about maximizing gender euphoria.
Here, our girl Z has a song for this(yes, I'm linking this again, I love it, sue me): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvleI-_qivA

Yeah thanks for taking the time to say that. I know I need to exercise but just feeling so shitty really makes me feel stuck here like i have no choice but to do nothing. And I really can't talk about this with a therapist. My social anxiety is too strong. It would be easier to repeatedly hit myself with a hammer.

Im already aware im not cis, but im not sure if im trans though either. Im somewhere in the nonbinary range and idk if hormones are the right idea.
