Didn't die. Holy shit, Rey killed him??? That's big! That's interesting! This changes so much! How will she react? How will everyone else react? This could push her to- oh wait no he's fine.

Not the dumbest part obviously, and probably not even the worst "thing" overall, but in terms of moments? None had me so disappointed. To have that interesting turn for the story and characters dangled in my face only to be ripped away.

The thing about Chewbecca was he fought alongside arguably the greatest Jedi in history in Yoda during the Clone wars. He's seen the power of the Jedi, so why was Han solo so skeptical about it when he first meets Luke?

If you write a trilogy without an overarching story in mind before doing so you're gonna have a bad time.

They pulled a game of thrones where they made this massive mystery box to get people talking about it and then followed through on almost none of it.

Honestly the only issues I have with the trilogy come from Episode 9.

The movie had no guts in any way

It had no guts to follow up on any story beats Episode 8 left.

Whoa Kylo Ren has murdered his master and anointed himself the new Emperor? Ah wait never mind.

Wow Rey's parents weren't important? They were just abusive drunks who dumped her in a ditch somewhere? How does this make her feel about her place in the galaxy? Ah wait nm

And it had no guts to stick with any of its own decisions.

Chewie dying and Rey being responsible? Whoa that's a crazy development. Ah wait nm

3PO getting his mind wiped again? Wow that's kinda upsetting. Ah wait nm

The thing about Chewie going out so unceremoniously was that it felt appropriately shitty given how everyone else was killed off even though it was a LOL fake out, therefore making that moment even more unnecessary and bad.

Honestly, that wasn't even my most hated Chewie scene.

The worst one was just randomly giving Chewie a medal. Like wtf is that supposed to be doing besides awkwardly winking at some of your audience? It served no purpose, completely stopped the scene, and then had all the triumphant music as if something significant actually happened.

They also didn't follow-through on Finn possibly being Force-sensitive either

They actually did. JJ Abrams had an outline for all 3 movies that he shared with Johnson in the hopes that he could pull a few threads through the middle movie, addressing most of the cohesion complains from the finished product. Abrams even made modifications to Episode 7 based on requests from Johnson. For whatever reason, Johnson tossed those notes and then (intentionally or not) took every plot thread opened up from the first movie and shit all over them.

Ridley revealed to Geek Le Mag that J.J. Abrams, who directed and co-wrote The Force Awakens, also wrote scripts for Episode VIII and IX before Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow jumped in to direct the sequels.

Heres what I think I know. J.J. wrote Episode VII, as well as drafts for VIII & IX, Ridley said. Then Rian Johnson arrived and wrote TLJ entirely. Exactly how much of the Sequel Trilogy was outlined in the early days of development by Abrams and the Lucasfilm Story Group remains a bit hazy, but we do know that Abrams and Johnson collaborated when it came to bridging the gap between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Johnson, for example, asked Abrams to send R2-D2 on the mission to find Luke Skywalker instead of BB-8 so that the astromech droid could play back Leias original message to Obi-Wan Kenobi for Luke in The Last Jedi.

Rian Johnson and J. J. Abrams met to discuss all of this, although Episode VIII is still his very own work, Ridley explained of Abrams involvement with The Last Jedi. I believe Rian didnt keep anything from the first draft of Episode VIII.

The sequel trilogy is a prime example of "too many chefs"

The prequel trilogy sucked, but at least it was coherent

They weren't old students of Luke. That was fan speculation.

Their backstory was revealed in a comic not long after EP9S release. They were just a band of untrained force users who did the darksides bidding.

Kylo after fleeing Luke's temple after its destruction(which wasn't his doing) eventually finds them, kills their leader and becomes the new head.

There's more stuff that happens but that's the jist of it.

I agree with this. 8 worked as a followup to 7 in terms of 7 being the passing of the torch, and 8 being the "right we've got the torch, let's move on" type thing. But then 9 was just all blatant callbacks again while doing nothing interesting or new.

I like how they built up an evil dark side Rey so much before the final movie. "omg feel the suspense..."

I'll never forgive JJ for not having all of the OT cast together on screen for even a lousy minute. He missed that oppurtunity and it's NEVER COMING BACK! EVER! :'(

It's hilarious how the reveal that Chewie is alive is underscored by soaring, triumphant music when he's being led through a ship in handcuffs.

Almost as hilarious as Rey sensing he's alive, but not, you know, sensing that he was alive after blowing up the wrong transport.

But slightly more hilarious than the Knights of Ren looming ominously in the background and then cutting to Chewie being captured, like it matters so little they aren't even gonna show it.
