The country that had major protests for the last two years, that is creating a new constitution, has now picked as its favorite candidate someone who has bluntly defended Pinochet and his associates, has very conservative views on women's issues, homosexuality, parenting and family, envioronmental issues and overall freedom. Among his propositions, Jos Antonio Kast says "animals should pay for their right to live under their protectors" and "extend executive emergency powers to deal with terrorism", as well as "persecute left wing agitators".

What do you make of all of this?

Also of note, a candidate whose entire campaign is basically a scam, who never set foot on the country for the entirety of it, got third majority. 12% of votes.

The thing is the alternative isn't a great candidate either. Young, inexperienced, has shown little knowledge of some figures on debates and interviews and is considerably left leaning as opposed to a more center-left alternative.

It's looking grim.
