I always see TAS as an exercise in theoretical optimization. It doesn't require the same dexterity that actually executing the run manually would, no, but it can be interesting to see the strategic process that goes into it, and even using tools, there's usually plenty of skill that goes into optimizing it (optimizations that sometimes aren't applicable to manual runs, so it's not just a matter of emulating that). Of course, they should be counted separately, but they are, so that's not a problem.

Exactly. TAS are about showing the theoretical limit of the game, eliminating any requirement of real time skills.

Also, having completed the video. That is what is referred to as ACE right? Over or under flowing values (or very specific values) to have funky effects.

OoT actually has a category like that, that can actually be done in real time.

I believe this was also real time. It referenced some TAS runs as being the background for the normal ones, but that 51 second run isn't a TAS.

Presumably, he means breaking games to the point that they're unrecognizable as the original gameplay experience, purely for the sake of reaching some arbitrary "finish" faster than anyone else. I can understand that, given that it's so far divorced from regular players' understanding of the game, but I also see why many people do enjoy dismantling games like this. It's conceptually similar taking a toy apart to see how it works instead of just playing with it, only gamifying that process with rules and goals and competition to make it more entertaining and foster a community around it.

Right, the point of TAS is to find the most optimized possible speedrun ever. Barring a few random cheaters trying to pass off their runs as legit when it was using TAS no one ever submits a TAS run as a legit run.

Also when games start getting so broke they can be beat in minutes using some glitch those are usually in a separate category. There is a way to beat Super Metroid in about 11 minutes using some weird glitches, but the main category of Super Metroid has ANY% completion at 40 minutes using only minor glitches to speed it up a bit.

I guess it's not a speedrun, but one of the best feats ever is beating Doom 2 Icon of Sin pacifist, which can basically only ever be done tool assisted

Are we talking about TAS's in general, or specifically about some instance of somebody trying to pass off a TAS as a regular run? Because regular runs and TAS's are separate races entirely, generally speaking, so you're breaking the analogy by saying that.

Achieving a run like that requires the player to spend more time with the game than the vast majority of regular players ever will. It's not like he looked up how to do this glitch, acquired a copy of the game, executed it in 51 seconds, then said "well that was fun, time to move on to the next game." That run was the product of extensive study, experimentation, and practice to optimize it as perfectly as he possibly could (plus a bit of luck).
