I do have a big complaint from a gameplay standpoint (up to msq lvl 88) and it's that they overdid it with the escort quests and stealth. And have way too few instanced battles (and all of them were in Garlemald). And the last few quests in zone 5 where you're chasing might be the worst quests since ARR.

I don't think most of that needs to be spoiled, it's pretty blatant and I doubt anyone will disagree: the NPC escort mechanic is fundamentally terrible. If they didn't make it so easy to break it wouldn't be SO bad, but they an get stuck in geometry for God's sake.

Plus you can't mount up or they will fall behind and just stop. That's potentially worse than actually breaking them back to start because they won't return to the beginning and there's no indicator of where they are on the map. You literally just have to find them by their name, even if they're in a sea of people.

I'm doing 88 quests now, and at the moment it's the only true issue I've had with an otherwise unbelievable expansion, but it's a doozy. I fully expect the quests to get patched in some way down the line.

This is the first I've heard of the escort NPCs getting stuck on geometry. I'm not doubting it but I'm surprised - I have the exact opposite thing occur where they will phase through objects to get to me. The whole thing is apparently very buggy due to the amount of people on the server, but I thought it was just limited to aesthetic errors like them levitating.

I like the ones where you are just vibing with a buddy in a city and can just walk around and examine things with them, but all that said it's not good in general. Mentioned it earlier but they mostly used it to add all the most cursed mission types in gaming.

The stealth missions are more annoying than the NPC following stuff. Following only screwed up on me once, and wasn't that big a deal. The L83 solo duty should've been amazing, but the stealth aspects made it horrible.

Also annoying: I'm not high enough level to do the L87 MSQ! This is the first time that's happened to me since ARR.

Mayhaps you haven't done any blue quests? I don't believe I've done anything other than MSQ and blues. Well, two role quest so far I guess.

The NPC tag along quests suck ass outside of cities, since you can't mount and teleporting is a no go.

I didn't find the tailing missions hard, just boring. You can mount up and I found it pretty easy to just ride over to the next hiding spot and wait.

The stealth was easy. It wasn't much different than a regular duty tbh and was way more active than some others have been in the past(Overly long fights with HP sponge bosses are the worst). It was fine.

surprise mash buttons at the end was horrible though and I wish they would get rid of that mechanic. I'd definitely taken my hands off the keyboard for a cutscene at that point.

I've done all the Blues. I wasn't far from a level (under 100K) but it was still a bit annoying. Doing the job quest got me there easily enough.

Oh I had 0 glitches regarding the following npcs. Never got stuck. I just don't like how they slow you down and they are everywhere and the quests I mentioned especially are really bad about it.

Ahhh, interesting incentive for completing role quests now that it isn't mandatory. Story irrelevant spoilers:

Makes the Job Gear dyeable immediately. Not that getting Shadowbringer's dyeable was a hassle (and who wouldn't want to unlock the Varis trial?), but at least you don't have to go out of your way. Job Gear can also be equipped synched down at 89.

The extra discount during the game awards makes me wonder if there's gonna be a thing there for it.

It's not actually eligible for awards because of the release date, so would seem odd otherwise.

so whyyyyyy! of all the times!

i mean, it's not the worst time. at least it happened after I was done MSQ - i did the first ex trial last night too and even farmed it a bit this afternoon before power went out. bonus dungeons too.

so all i really have left is the second ex, i was planning on doing that tonight but oh well. maybe in a few hours if i'm lucky.

I'll be heading into the final area as soon as I'm back on in a couple hours.

So far there's been 3 instances of me wishing we had extreme versions of dungeon bosses, because they were almost trial worthy.

i made it in after 2 and a half hours and got d/ced 30 seconds later

i heard a trick some people are doing is having two clients open at once - you can bring a second one to character select without it kicking you out of your queue, then when the first one crashes, you just immediately save your queue spot by clicking your character name.

so i did that and i think it's what caused my d/c. because i started getting 5003 ("authentication error") during my queue, when i previously was only getting 2002s.

and then when i logged in, i got a 5003 as i crashed. (something else came before it but i didn't think to note what)

I'm a little concerned at what things are going to be like tomorrow once all the non early-access folks are trying to get in.

Lamia is not even a particularly congested server and the queues tonight were still wild.

I'm going to guess that the vast majority of players who're buying the game before Christmas pre-ordered it to play early, but I could be wrong. Main exception would be Playstation players getting a physical copy tomorrow I guess? And it feels like PC has a lot more players than PS4/5 do.

Yeah, that might very well be the case. I suppose well see. Anecdotally, I have two friends who play regularly and didnt know about early access because this is their first expansion launch.

I don't think Endwalker is available physically in any form. The Collector's Edition was just for PC Download, and for PlayStation, they said to buy the Collector's Box (which I'm not even sure if it was ever available) and then buy game itself digitally off of the PlayStation store.

There might be some people that didn't bother with Early Access but I can't imagine there would be that many of them.

5th dungeon and 2nd trial were great. A final showdown with Amon where fucking Asahi of all people makes a cameo appearance. And then the trial fight against Hydaelyn with an Answers remix. Just incredible.

End of 82-83 zone MSQ:

Gameplay of the final Metal Gear section was kinda frustrating (died once because I pulled two mobs trying to find the ceruleum), but the music together with the WoLs desperation to get back to her friends in time to save them really made it work. Im kinda surprised were already going to the moon at level 83 MSQ; I was thinking itd be the last zone! (Also, how is the quest not called Fly Me to the Moon??)

Ive been progressing very slowly because Ive been doing all of the side quests, but this zone may have broken me. It took me basically all day just to do Garlemald.

83 trial

Is that the end of Fandaniel? I was expecting him to end up being a more complex character than he seemed, but I guess hes just not? Anyway, I didnt see him fusing with Zodiark (or Zodiark only being the 83 boss) coming at all... I really hope Zenos isnt gonna be the final boss of 6.0 because hes pretty lame if you take him seriously, but its looking kinda likely.

The actual fight was very good, and I as far as I can remember probably the hardest normal mode trial? It felt like one of the easier extremes to me, though its probably not a fair comparison since I almost never go into those blind like I did for this. It took about 3/4 of the lockout to clear and I was still having trouble with the starfall mechanic (I saw the tell the last one or two times but couldnt tell to what direction it was relative so I just followed a guy who did know).

i'm not trying to gatekeep who is a "real FFXIV fan"

its just, i feel like most people who are invested enough in the game that they'd want to play "day 1" ("launch" day) would also be invested enough that they likely knew about early access and pre-ordering

so i'm not sure how many people really fit into this potential deluge of non-EA launch players

but maybe i'm lacking perspective
